I never thought I’d be a wedding industry disruptor with my decade-old business, Bridesmaid for Hire. I started the company not because I’m wedding obsessed. The opposite, truly. But because I noticed how tough weddings are on people’s emotions and overall mental health. I wanted to provide them with a support system that they might not already have in their life. Ps. The truth about the wedding industry is that most skills and services could be adapted to fit the needs of those getting married.

If you don’t want to be a traditional wedding vendor, there are more ways for you to jump into the industry and make money.

Bridesmaid

• That’s my wheelhouse. If you want to be a hired bridesmaid, I teach people my secrets.

Artist

• A cool unique thing at weddings these days is hiring someone to paint a live portrait of the couple during their first dance or the venue. If you like art, painting, sculpting, etc. come up with a cool bizz where you do this at the wedding. It serves as entertainment and a fun keepsake for the couple.

• Depending on your artistic ability, you can make anywhere from $1,500 to $10,000!

Performer

• If you are creative, musical, or have any type of unique talent, use them as a way to get hired to entertain at weddings. People want this at their wedding! If you play the violin, you can get hired to play during the ceremony. If you’re a hula hooper, you can be an entertainer for the ceremony. If you’re into juggling, that could be a good service to offer to spice up cocktail hour. Weddings have become stale and hiring unique entertainers is at the top of a lot of people’s lists.

• You can earn anywhere from $150 to $500 an hour.

Financial Advisor 

• Good with money, accounting, financial planning? Couples getting married need this. Offer a service where you do people’s wedding budgets based on a survey of questions they fill out (most people don’t know how to make a budget for their wedding that will make sense). If you’re solid at financial planning, offer a service where you help people plan how to pay for their wedding.

Stylist

• If styling is your “thing” become a wedding stylist where you help the couple pick out their outfits for the entire wedding adventure, including accessories. If you’re awesome at this, do this service because people want to look good on their wedding and need help.

First Dance Instructor 

• From ballroom dancing to choreographed routines, couples can find lessons that will help them impress the crowd for their first dance. Dance instructors recommend start lessons months ahead of time, but can also provide last-minute refreshers for those who don’t want to stumble.

• Pay is roughly $20 an hour

• Couples are hiring social media content creators to show up at their wedding, film everything, and make then 5-10 Instagram Reels/TikToks that they can post after. If you’re a content creator, this gig can pay more than a brand deal does.

Marriage Help

• In my opinion, the smartest thing you can do before your wedding is make sure your relationship has a good solid foundation. Marriage is tough. The first year of marriage is truly rocky for a lot of people. If you have a therapy background or an interest in this, there’s a need for marriage help/prep for couples before they get married.

• This company is doing it already. Use it as a model for your own bizz idea.

Writing Speeches & Vows

• Weddings include a lot of talking. But not everyone is the best at doing this. Start a service where you help people with public speaking or speech/vow writing.

• My business does this both 1:1 and with an AI tool.

• You could earn anywhere between $500-$4,000 a month with this type of service.
