6 minute read on how to do social media right now

                                                           

We were talking about what we should do with our social media the other day. Not an easy task. 

The list of "things you shouldn't do" was 10x bigger than the list of "things you can do." Social is without-a-doubt the fastest and easiest way for a brand to shoot themselves in the foot.

I usually find that the best way to learn a new skill is to force yourself to teach it to others. (The result is that you usually do a ton of work researching so that you share something valuable that your audience doesn't know.)

So that's what we did here. And moving forward this blog post will be our brand guide. 

TL;DR: 

  • Don't go dark, it'll look like you're out of business, or don't care. 
  • 3x your social listening. 
  • Audit every pre-planned post. 
  • Show appreciation and empathy. 
  • Be careful of new taboos.
