SightCall: The Long Road to Building a Scalable Enterprise SaaS

In 2008, while working as a telecom engineer, Thomas and his friend wanted to bridge the gap between telecoms and the internet.

They bootstrapped for 3 years and creating a prototype in 4 months. But building a scalable platform they could sell took 5 challenging years.

In 2012, Thomas started showing up at Salesforce's San Francisco office every week, determined to get a meeting. Despite repeated rejections, he persisted until he finally secured a meeting.

Their prototype of SightCall impressed the Salesforce team, leading to a partnership that helped them land HP as their first major customer.

With SightCall, HP helped customers remotely with printer issues, without dispatching techs or handling returns, saving them millions of dollars.

But getting here was no easy feat. It took years of hard work, improving the product, and never giving up. Even after landing HP, it was just the beginning of the challenges the founders would face.

As SightCall grew, they encountered numerous obstacles. Legal issues forced them to rebrand, sales and marketing teams clashed, and the pressure to scale rapidly intensified after raising significant funding.

Today, SightCall is an 8-figure ARR business serving hundreds of global enterprise customers with a 100-person team. They've raised $54M.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • How Thomas and his co-founder identified a market gap and built a product to bridge telecom and software.

  • How partnerships with companies like Salesforce helped SightCall land key customers and drive early growth.

  • The challenges SightCall faced when forced to rebrand due to legal issues and how they turned it into an opportunity.

  • Why raising substantial funding creates intense pressure to grow quickly and how to manage the challenges.

  • How Thomas manages his mental and physical well-being as a founder and the importance of managing stress.

I hope you enjoy it!

Every Successful SaaS Startup CEO Has a "Secret Weapon". Are You Missing Yours?

As the CEO of an early-stage SaaS startup, your decisions can make or break your business.

But the feedback you get is often filtered through what your team thinks you want to hear, not what you need.

It creates an echo chamber and skews your perspective.

Which makes it challenging to see the bigger picture - like missing the forest for the trees.

This is where a trusted advisor comes in.

An experienced, objective expert who guides & supports you in navigating the complexities of the SaaS industry.

Here's why a trusted advisor can be a game-changer:

  1. You get an unbiased outside perspective to challenge your assumptions and help you see the bigger picture.

  2. You gain new industry insights to guide your strategy based on past successes and future trends.

  3. You can sharpen your vision and strategies through regular, challenging discussions.

  4. You're able to make confident decisions, having vetted plans with an expert invested in your success.

  5. You foster a more adaptable and innovative culture by embracing diverse perspectives.

What to look for in an advisor:

  1. Expertise: a successful track record working with SaaS CEOs like you, with deep expertise in the challenges at this stage.

  2. Alignment: proven ability to help SaaS startups succeed, with an approach that's adaptable to your company's needs.

  3. Chemistry: builds trust and maintains open, honest communication for a strong working relationship.

  4. Unique Perspective: brings diverse perspectives and insights from across the SaaS industry to provide comprehensive guidance.

For startup CEOs, a trusted advisor is not just a luxury.

It's a strategic asset—their 'super weapon'.
