Dear friends,Every week, I’m sharing an essay that relates to what we are building and learning at Alan. Those essays are fed by the article I’m lucky enough to read and capitalise on. I’m going to try to be provocative in those essays to trigger a discussion with the community. Please answer, comment, and ping me! If you are not subscribed yet, it's right here! Sometimes we wonder why we should go the extra mile to make a product magical, to pay attention to the small details in writing, animations, interface, etc. Is it a waste of time? Is it a bad investment? Can we measure the impact of what we do? The first point is that we already have an impact on the lives of 500,000 members, in their health, in their lives. We hope to reach millions. If we don't add a bit more beauty and elegance to their lives, could we be proud of what we've accomplished? This is the almost dogmatic and noble aspect of the problem. There's also a very pragmatic aspect as well. It's that people are moved by emotions and remember emotions. In a story, we remember an emotion that bit into a memory. We remember emotions more than facts. In an interface with a product, it's also our emotions that guide us the most.
We create a product that people want to talk about at the coffee machine or at their dinner. And there we create growth. We can also create behaviors that can be pushed more towards prevention, more towards access to care. And so, we create more Healthy Years for our members. In short, spending time to create magic is worth it. It's what will make the quality and differentiation of our product. It's what will continue to give a unique soul to Alan in the industry. That has infinite value. This is what we call craftsmanship. We must continue to cultivate it. It’s already over!
