​Display Ad Daily officially launched about 3 months ago now.

For those of you that haven't checked it out yet, it's an extremely simple, free report that shows sites that were recently added to the Mediavine and Raptive Ad Networks.

The report runs automatically and is updated every 24 hours.

Since launch, the tool has received over 6,000 pageviews, netted over 400 new newsletter subscribers and "Niche Twins Display Ad Daily" has been typed directly into Google nearly 300 times.

As a cherry on top, it's also it's been featured in a handful of large newsletters and publications and generated some really nice organic backlinks.

Now it goes without saying, these are far from earth shattering numbers.

But it's proof positive for Mike and I that our original assumption was correct.

As site owners ourselves, we both LOVE nerding out and deep diving interesting sites that are winning TODAY.

Mike had created a less user friendly version of this tool a while back that we were both using behind closed doors nearly every single day.

Surely some segment of our audience would also find this fun and useful...so why not improve it and give it away?

Since the Display Ad Daily launch, we've been endlessly spitballing ideas back and forth of other free tools or services we could offer our Niche Twins audience.

Throughout the brainstorming process, I've ended up with a swipe file on my phone of various niche specific calculators and tools that are drumming up some pretty meaningful traffic.

Here are a few of my favorite examples...

Days Between Two Dates

What is it?

Curious how many days, months, and years there are between two dates?

You guessed it. There's a calculator for that.

One of the most simple and popularly used versions is offered by a site called Time and Date.

And when I say simple, I mean SIMPLE. No bells and whistles here.

Years ago, in my past job as a Clinical Research Feasibility Analyst, I often needed to know the exact number of months a given study enrolled in.

And in almost every case, the study publication only listed the date the first patient enrolled and the date the last patient enrolled...

...so I practically lived in this tool for a stretch.

Traffic

This site pulls in over 130 million pageviews a month across a variety of different tools, of which this day calculator accounts for 2.4 million monthly pageviews alone.

Pool Volume Calculator

What is it?

If you've ever owned a pool you know how important it is to have a pretty close approximation of how many gallons of water are in there.

Without this number you can't run your pool equipment at maximum efficiency and perhaps most importantly, you can't safely add chemicals to the water.

The first thing pool owners do when they need to determine this number?

They pull out their phone and search for a pool volume calculator (because god knows no one is doing freehand, back of the napkin math these days).

Traffic

SwimmingPool.com is doing over 200,000 pageviews a month and started offering their volume calculator towards the end of 2020...

...and every single month since launch it's been consistently contributing over 25,000 pageviews a month.

But the cool thing is even a site like Matt Giovanisci's Swim University, that appears in the #10 spot for "Pool Volume Calculator", generates over 3,500 pageviews a month, every single month, since launch in mid-2019.

Aspect Ratio Calculator

What is it?

My wife works on the Corporate Digital Experience Team at a large company.

As part of her day to day activities, she's constantly cropping and converting content.

Because every image and video has a shape that is exceptionally precise in proportion (or ratio), she needs to maintain that ratio to avoid destroying the overall quality.

One day I noticed her toggling back and forth between the same tab over and over and over again - that tab turned out to be CalculateAspectRatio.com.

Traffic

This is easily one of my favorite examples of how an insanely simple tool...can literally be the entire website.

The site is currently raking in a casual 120,000 pageviews a month.

So the two questions I pose to you are:

1. What calculator, tool, or automatically updated report would your specific audience find useful and
2. how much traffic would it have to pull in a month for you to deem it worthwhile?

With services like Upwork now readily available to everyone, you don't need to understand how to write a single line of code to ship something like this.

Mike and I's mindset is if we can think of just a handful of other tools like Display Ad Daily that all individually contribute 2,000+ pageviews a month for Niche Twins - that's a win.
