Exhibits A & B

Let's kick off with two shows of note in Boston and London.

Best Dressed Art Show

Josh Luke and Meredith Kasabian's output extends well beyond their work at Best Dressed Signs, and this retrospective in Boston tells that story. In addition to their own creations, the exhibition introduces the wider Pre-Vinylite Society network, with an opportunity to check out signs and lettering from folks like Carl Frisso Angell, Jeff Canham, James Cooper, Chris & Stu Dobell, Kenji Nakayama, Ged Palmer, Shelby Rodeffer, Travis W. Simon, Patrick Smith, Ross Trimmer, and Hana Sunny Whaler.

Kenji Nakayama on display at the Best Dressed Art Show in Jamaica Plain, Boston.

The Best Dressed Art Show runs until 22 June at Jameson & Thompson in Jamaica Plain, with an opening reception this Thursday, 23 May.

Windows Into Spring

As part of Clerkenwell Design Week, Archie Proudfoot is reproducing one of his earliest reverse glass pieces, 'WOW', in the window of the Cult Vision eyewear shop. This live, performative, installation is then just five minutes' walk away from an immersive display of his award-winning garden shed. (Archie shares the story of the shed in BLAG 04.)

Archie Proudfoot's Windows Into Spring is part of Clerkenwell Design Week.

The reverse-glass gilding can be seen daily from 21–23 May between 10am–12pm and 2–4pm at Cult Vision on Goswell Road. The shed of the year can be seen from 21–25 May at Velorose Gallery in Charterhouse Square, with a reception on the evening of Thursday, 23 May.

BLAG Events

The final BLAG Chat of the current season is with Mark Josling from Spectrum Signs. This will follow a Q+A format, with an opportunity to ask questions and learn from Mark's experience of over 35 years on the brush.

BLAG Chat with Mark Josling at Spectrum Signs, free and online on Wednesday, 5 June.

You can bring your questions on the day, or send them in advance to sam@bl.ag.

BLAG Meet: Inside Issue 05

This week I'm going to the printer to see BLAG 05 coming off the presses. Just like the last two issues, I'm hosting a free online event with an opportunity to meet some of the contributors.

BLAG Meet: Inside Issue 05 takes place on Saturday, 9 November, and I'll share more detailed timings as the date approaches. In the meantime, catch up with the recordings from the last two events.

There are recordings for 16 of the sessions from BLAG Meet: Inside Issue 04 at bl.ag online.

BLAG 05 will be sent exclusively to Blaggers next month. You can add your name to the distribution list, and have Issues 03 and 04 shipped right away, by joining the annual plan with $15 off until the end of May.

Workshops

I've moved the general listing of recurring workshops around the world to the bl.ag online article, 'Where Can I Learn the Craft of Sign Painting?'.

In addition to those, here are a handful of workshops around the world to look out for.

Ghostsigns in London

I'm briefly back in London this summer, and leading a Stoke Newington Ghostsigns Walk on Saturday, 24 August. Tickets are £20 and guests can add a signed copy of Ghost Signs: A London Story for the discounted price of £20.

This is likely to be my only public walk this year, but all three London tours are available digitally, including the free one in Clapham.

More Gatherings

For Letterheads meets, visit the events page at bl.ag online. Here are a handful of other events coming up in-person and online:

That's a wrap for this latest worldwide events roundup; back for more in June. As always, please send details of your own and others' events to sam@bl.ag.

All good things, Sam
