Marketing Junto - Get Off Of Twitter/X!!!!

Twitter is dead. I refuse to call it straight X. It's probably a good thing that Twitter/X isn't what it once was. So much more innovation has happened because of Elon Musk's bumbling of the platform.

But what I don't get why tech communities, especially those who claim to be inclusive and accepting are still sticking with Twitter/X for communication and sharing. Especially during conferences.

I'm Look At You SEO/SEM & WordPress Communities

The SEO/SEM community is predominantly on Twitter/X, as is the WordPress community. Both have some expats on Threads.net and Mastodon, but not quite the population that's on Twitter/X.

I just don't get it! Elon Musk keeps showing his true colors and these communities only start to trickle to alternatives — if that!

This is seen en masse at big conferences like WordCamp Europe, which just happened in Torino, Italy this past month.

WordCamp Europe was a significant event for the WordPress community, attracting more than 2,000 participants from more than 70 countries. It featured a diverse range of activities, including presentations, workshops, and networking opportunities.

WordCamp is a great time. But most of the communication and sharing happens on Twitter/X!

The community is trying to show how inclusive it is, but by using Twitter/X during these events, they're doing the exact opposite.

Is there some conversations happening on Mastodon, Threads.net, and even BlueSky? Yea, sure. But not like Twitter/X. 😵‍💫

Ugh it makes me so mad and disappointed. 😡

Now let's look at the SEO/SEM community. There are more on Mastodon than those in the WordPress community, but still many of the big names are still over on Twitter/X. 😡 Hell, even Threads.net is better than Twitter/X. I guess lesser of two evils.

Am I Absurd? Should I Just Shut Up?

What do you think? Am I upset for nothing? Do you think being on Twitter/X can hurt your brand, since it's Musk's playground? Is Twitter/X still a valuable place to be, even with the bottom-feeders there? Ugh.

  Interesting. I generally thought it was good idea so that the 10th spot in the organic listings wasn't the end of the first page. But, I get why Google is doing it. People still only really look at the first 10 listings and continuous scroll takes more time, energy, bandwidth to use. Back to pagination we go!

  Seriously, what could possibly go wrong? 😜🤣
• YouTube Tests Picture-In-Picture Viewing for Shorts, Channel Mentions in Comments
  Clever and makes viewing YouTube Shorts stickier, because you can keep browsing while watching.
• X Highlights Advertising Opportunities Around the 2024 Olympics
  Ironically, per my rant above, Twitter/X will be a good place for "normals" to talk about the Olympics. Still bitter about my communities not embracing the alternatives. 😵‍💫
• Meta’s Rolling out Broadcast Channels to Pages With Over 10K Followers
  Sort of like what they do in Instagram. This could be interesting. But 10k follower can be a high bar to reach.
• Meta’s LLM Compiler is the latest AI breakthrough to change the way we code
  I'm still wary about trusting LLMs and AI to get stuff right. If it does it'll be a game changer.
• AI personal assistant startup Ario raises $16 million, aims to democratize digital helpers
  The personal assistant space will be disrupted by AI. Maybe for the better, maybe not. But if it works well, I'm excited.
• FCC rule would make carriers unlock all phones after 60 days
  This is good news. Being able to have the flexibility to move from one carrier to another with your device is a good thing.
• Reimagining search in the AI era: Insights from ex-Bing Search director
  Interesting views and worth a read.
• Zuckerberg disses closed-source AI competitors as trying to ‘create God’
  Not sure I feel about Zuck being the one doing the dissing. Especially with what Meta has done to our culture.

  I remember those days. They were, for the most part, really exciting.

  No moral compass at all. This isn't the last time.

  A geeky article/op-ed about writing good CSS. I enjoy a good rant about CSS every now and then.

  Honestly why wouldn't you just put it in the HTML, where it belongs, in the first place? Geezus. 😵‍💫

  A must read from Glenn Gabe of G-Squared Interactive and of course the interwebs!
