What’s Going Down @ Google 📊

→ Last week’s Retrododo meeting (described here ICYMI), combined with the buzz around the next core update and verbal about prioritizing HCU recoveries, has got some digital marketers feeling hopeful. In this video, Authority Hacker asks: “Is Google finally about to throw a lifeline to small publishers?”

Based on history, my guess? “No.”

But, you know… we’ll see. The video does make some solid points.

→ That vid also covers a solid piece of content from a few weeks ago that’s also worth mentioning. ICYMI: a few weeks ago, this SEO discovered “51 calculator tools that have driven more than 4,000 backlinks on autopilot.”

→ Speaking of the core update, it appears to be in progress (or at least is being tested), and some HCU victims (aka big names like Retrododo) seem to be showing some (minimal, but still visible) early gains.

→ Speaking of— here’s a good thread sharing 5 things to remember if you’ve been hit badly by HCU. Here are the first 3:

1. "E-commerce sites have mostly gained through the last 9 months."
2. "Traffic diversity appears to be a ranking factor. And generally, traffic is a ranking factor."
3. "Thin content reduces your site’s quality score and can also affect future indexation."

→ The Chrome User Experience Report “202406 dataset is live” and is showing “performance gains which are expected to inform the Page Experience Ranking Factor.”

→ Oh yeah, Google is shutting down Notes at the end of the month, so it’s your last chance to export Search data from the service if you’re one of the… dozens?... of people who used it.

AI Insight 🤖

→ This AI-powered Google Chrome feature, “Product Specs,” will simplify the product comparison process for users “by using the summarization prowess of Google’s AI to identify and pull the specifications from a product page.”

→ More AI regulatory issues are in the news, as Meta “won't offer future multimodal AI models in EU,” with similar actions being taken in Brazil.

→ Moz is hosting a free webinar w/ @iPullRank titled “101 Different Ways I'm Using AI for SEO” which might be up your alley.

→ Before the pivot to social media, may as well drop this list of the best AI social media tools currently on the market. The tools here are categorized into sections like “Post Generators and AI Copywriting,” “Social Listening and Analytics,” “Scheduling Posts,” “Image and Video Generation,” “Social Media Ads,” and more. All the big names are here, but there are some lesser-known tools worth reading up on too, and each is analyzed in terms of Pricing, Pros & Cons, etc.

Social Media Round-up 📲

→ Meta is hopping on the “Holiday Marketing in July” push, offering a “performance playbook” geared towards the xmas season. The guide focuses on major topics like "How Meta leverages AI to drive momentum through Q5," "How to plan your budget for high-volume sales days," and "Why you should avoid big changes during prime time."

As reported in my last newsletter, Reddit is already pushing advertisers to get their holiday marketing strategies together, too.

Meta is definitely pushing Advantage+, sharing smash success stories w/ whopping numbers like 89% increases in online purchases and 57% decreases in cost per subscription by companies using the service.

→ X is introducing Trend Genius, “an exciting new ad product that allows brands to deploy hyper-relevant ads based on real-time conversation trends, leveraging the power of X’s Ads and Trend APIs.” Using AI, Trend Genius basically employs X's AI technologies to boost promotions at conversation peaks.

→ This guide to content repurposing is a solid one. Basically, the article pitches a method that turns Tweets into blog posts and blog posts into videos and clips into reels— and then, maybe, that Reel? Becomes a Tweet. Think about it.

→ Also dig this breakdown of “3 ways to increase your revenue using email marketing.” Each of the three steps (“Increase # of customers, Increase # of purchases per customer, and Increase $ per purchase”) is unpacked into easy, actionable steps.
