I recently started writing an article about posting to Threads consistently for 30 days (out on Monday) and the content deity must have been watching because a report was released today that perfectly corroborated my entirely anecdotal findings (which you can read in the article that's out on Monday).

I love it when serendipitous events like this happen, but it got me thinking about how I'm definitely in a bubble. My subscriptions and newsletters are so finely tuned by either me or an algorithm that I wouldn't be surprised if anyone who's not as locked into the social media space has no clue what I'm talking about.

However, that's why we run this newsletter – to get the most important stuff from these niche spaces to you. Like said report, which is linked in the news section at the bottom 😄.

Video itself is nothing new to LinkedIn — you’ve always been able to upload clips in various formats — but this focus for creators is.

In Kirsti’s latest for the Buffer blog, she shares how creators sharing video posts have seen their reach skyrocket in recent months, as LinkedIn seems to give videos a little algorithmic boost as they work to fill these new video feeds.

If you want to explore this option for your personal or business brand, here are some anecdotal tips for success with LinkedIn video:

1. Use typical short-form video dimensions: While there are no rigid video dimensions (yet), lean in 9:16 dimensions for your videos
2. Explore unexpected styles and subjects: Kirsti’s lifestyle content performed pretty well on LinkedIn, as they stop the scroll in a way talking head videos from podcasts don’t since users are already used to that type of video content.
3. Crosspost from other platforms: If you already have a fleshed out video content strategy, try crossposting those videos to see what sticks.
4. Remember that text still matters: Kirsti noted that most of the engagement on her viral videos came from the captions, rather than the video itself. This is likely because folks who took the time to comment came across these posts in the main feed where the text post is still prominent.
5. Video and audio quality are key: Ensure your LinkedIn video is as high-quality as possible (your regular phone camera will work just fine) and find a quiet space for your phone’s microphone to pick up clear audio.
6. Start with an engaging hook: Watch time likely plays a big role in how well your LinkedIn video performs, so grabbing your viewers' attention early on is paramount for a strong video performance. The first few seconds are critical in grabbing attention.
7. Try out editing tools and apps: A solid video editing tool can be a game changer when it comes to video quality and implementing creative hooks. We love and recommend Capcut for desktop!
