HALA Art & Design Folio is a printed archive amplifying the creative and cultural peripheries of Cebu, a UNESCO City of Design. Through 160 pages of stories and photographs, our maiden edition covers intersections, emerging spaces, nature-conscious practice, and counterculture commentary—with an all-local, women-majority roster of contributors to capture the nuances of the island and its people.

+25 regional voices from Philippines are amplified with projects ranging from decolonial fashion to the democratization of art.

The creative community in the Philippines, Cebu, is in a constant state of building and rebuilding, starting and restarting. It is very rare to see a creative project survive 5 years, let alone one. Creative spaces often close down or move shop. Movements disappear for no clear reason. It is an open secret that clients go to us for cheaper labor while our counterparts in the capital of Manila are paid better, get better opportunities,+ have more exposure.
Creatives often hold down a day job or leave the field to make ends meet. Despite the UNESCO designation, far too many are unaware that Cebu's creatives exist. The community itself tends to be fragmented, with musicians, writers, visual artists, and so on keeping to themselves. I'm happy to share that we finally launched the book alongside and with the community we're aiming to uplift: drag queens, indie artists, creative community organizers, sustainable designers, and much more.
Our first edition amplifies the stories of 30+ creative players and innovators. All of our contributors are Cebuanos or Cebuanos-at-heart, with over 60% of our writers being women and queer. We already have a few museums, bookshops, and consigners nationwide who want to carry the book, and we also ship worldwide to bring these creatives into the light. Now, we're working on building our network of distributors, shaping the frameworks that would make the second edition easier to produce, and collaborating with interested partners to design creative events. I'll also be taking on the new role of Editor-in-Chief. Telling stories is half the work; the other half is making sure they're heard. We are looking for distributors worldwide - bookshops, galleries, museums, and stores interested in consigning. For interested bloomers, we also ship worldwide at @halacebu on Instagram.

🎥 This film explores the origins of regenerative agriculture, offering a story that is both new and ancient in its roots. Co-written and narrated by Lyla June Johnston, an indigenous public speaker, artist, scholar, and community organizer, the film takes a holistic approach to regenerative stewardship, expanding the idea of regeneration beyond the principles popularized in the relatively young regenerative agriculture movement.

Their resource hub is a constellation of practical and mindful resources on intersectional environmentalism from a young and committed group of thought leaders changing the landscape of making climate thinking relatable and accessible.
