A (very!) cheap mattress we love is on sale today

Most good-quality mattresses cost more than $1,000, which may be more than you want to spend if you’re, say, outfitting a guest bedroom ahead of holiday-hosting season. And while a lot of the cheap mattresses out there are uncomfortable and saggy, we’ve found four actually good ones that feel supportive and actually pretty luxurious, without the hefty price tag.

One of our favorite cheap mattresses, the Novilla Bliss Memory Foam Mattress, is on sale today for Wirecutter readers for just $230. With its body-conforming top and nice balance of support and cushion, we think it should appeal to those who prefer a classic memory-foam sink. Simply put: It offers a Tempur-Pedic–like feel, without a Tempur-Pedic price. Use promo code WIRECUTTER at checkout to get it on sale.

Plus: A mattress your guests will love

Though these folding mattresses take up more space than an air mattress, they’re significantly more comfortable and versatile. When a guest visits, editorial director Christine Cyr Clisset stacks two on top of one another to create an 8-inch-thick mattress.

“They look like a normal bed, which makes our guest space (my office) look far more polished than it would with a blow-up mattress,” she writes. “No one can tell they’re tri-folds.”

One last thing: “I’ve cracked the code to styling my kids’ hair”

Senior staff writer Brooklyn White used to struggle doing her daughter’s curls. She tried water and hair lotions and bought different-size combs and brushes. “And still I floundered,” she writes.

Then she found this creamy hair lotion, which helped her “achieve styles I thought were beyond my capabilities.” She’s found this cream has been especially good for twists, braids, afros, or puffs. And she uses it on her son’s tightly coiled hair when it needs some moisture. Plus, it’s great for adults, too.
