What’s Going Down @ Google 📊

→ Google’s “Learn About” AI feature is an educational chatbot geared toward walking users through topics with Interactive Lists with tools like “why it matters” and “build your vocab.” The feature’s use of interactive and visual resources has some people comparing it to a children’s Choose Your Own Adventure storybook. Here’s an explainer on it.

→ Google AdSense has announced an Anchor Ad expansion called “collapsible anchors.” Basically, these anchors will modify the height of ads for mobile while also giving users the option to collapse them to standard anchor size. The word from Google: "Collapsible anchors drive increased visibility of ads, leading to enhanced performance."

→ Worth noting that Google’s halt on political ads in Canada, Brazil, and France is now spreading to the entire EU.

→ Not that I’d ever take his word for it, but I wouldn’t do my job if I didn’t let you know that Google’s John Mueller is officially warning content creators about “using Google Trends for ideas and generation.

→ Android users out there have probably already noticed that the Google app has rolled out a Notifications tab.

AI Insight 🤖

→ Speaking of Google, a new AI chat feature for e-commerce is being tested: "When clicking the CTA, a chat window opens up with the ability to ask questions that serve results for the website. The chat serves product results based on the free listings data."

→ OpenAI’s new agent, codenamed “Operator,” is sounding more and more like an alternative to Google’s Jarvis, as it “can use a computer to take actions on a person’s behalf, such as writing code or booking travel, according to two people familiar with the matter.” ETA January 2025, BTW.

→ After previously being exclusively available to Plus Subscribers, the Windows ChatGPT App is now available to the entire public. Basically, the app functions as a “companion window” for PC users, making the AI chatbot conveniently available while using other Windows programs. Microsoft fuming rn. Especially since Copilot is looking like a bust, as “customers are dissatisfied, rivals are circling, and company insiders are skeptical.”

Social Media Round-up 📲

→ Facebook is introducing Views as its main metric, following Instagram’s recent transition. As per Meta:

- “On reels and videos, Plays will now be called Views”
- “For Stories, photo or text posts, Views will replace Impressions”

This cross-platform uniformity should streamline your content performance measurement.

→ TikTok’s new AI video generation tools, aka Symphony Creative Studio, will “turn your product information or URL into a video, add a digital avatar to narrate your video script, or localize your existing videos into new languages using translation and dubbing capabilities.”

Why does this matter? Well, the press release leads by citing recent stats around Creative and Advertising Effectiveness:

- Performance campaigns benefit from utilizing 5-7 creative assets with a refresh frequency of at least once a week, leading to a 1.5x increase in return on ad spend (ROAS).

-Brand campaigns that employ more than three creative assets, refreshed twice a week, achieve a 2.7x increase in brand association.

Get on it.

→ Another major element of TikTok’s Symphony Creative Studio: it’ll feature Getty’s licensed images and videos.

→ Instagram has changed the types of posts you can boost to “all.” Basically, if any post from a professional account starts doing well organically, you can boost it and turn it into a paid ad, including audience-targeting and goal-oriented specification options.

→ This Ahrefs video titled Debunking 11 Common Digital Marketing Myths You Thought Were True takes on some all-timers, ranging from “ChatGPT Writes Better Content Than Humans” to “Nobody Visits the Second Page on Google” to, of course, “SEO is Dead.” Lots of interesting steps in the middle, too.
