Switch Weekly - #185: Your Nintendo News
Sans E3. | Hey, here's issue #185 of your weekly Switch digest, with the week in Nintendo news. PS5 reveal aside, this is usually a time filled to the absolute brim with huge big reveals and new announcements from across the industry, but 2020 is gonna 2020. As such, no usual E3 Direct this week from Nintendo. Instead a ton of smaller video events seem to have popped up, and I've kinda lost track of all of them to be honset. Big Switch announcements seem to be lacking anyway, but I've shared a couple of the new game reveals that we've seen so far in the issue below all the same (I'm no doubt missing some). Next week we've got nearly 25 games dropping on the eShop, including Summer in Mara and that Burnout Paradise remaster. Finally I just want to thank all of you who entered the Knight Squad competition last week. Congratulations to the winners: Aaron, Marc, Amanda, and Andrew. ▶ A closer look at Paper Mario: The Origami King — Nintendo shared this extended look at the upcoming Paper Mario game ealier this week. Looking good I reckon. Out next month. Nintendo // YouTube Nintendo account breach affected almost twice as many people as previously thought — Yikes. This acts as a good reminder to set up two-factor authentication if you haven't yet. Tom Philips // Eurogamer Alex Kidd In Miracle World DX coming to Switch in 2021 — Aww yeah, this remaster looks rad. I have fond memories of playing the original on the Master System. Boring fact: This came out in Europe ages ago, the same year I was born. Alex Seedhouse // Nintendo Insider ▶ XIII gameplay trailer — This remake of the 2003 FPS original was due to come out last year, but is now slated for November. I loved this when I played it on the GameCube (even if it was deemed a tad cookie cutter), so this one is very much on my watch list. Microids // YouTube REVIEW Project Warlock — This FPS mixes weaponry with witchcraft. The end result is "a gem that borrows influences from the greatest FPS titles of our past" all whilst rocking a pretty unique look. Jacob Kavanagh // Noisy Pixel REVIEW Knight Squad — Here's my review of this arena brawler, which remains "a super satisfying party game experience" with "an honest and direct charm". Chris Brandrick // Switch Weekly REVIEW Adam's Venture: Origins — Uncharted this ain't: "Technically, narratively and mechanically inept, Adam's Venture: Origins on Switch is disgraceful". Stuart Gipp // Nintendo Life Universal praise has never served anyone — Outside of Nintendoland, you may have noticed reviews for The Last of Us 2 arrived this week - and it's seen a heap of praise, however not everyone loved it. As such, here's an interesting broader read about game critique, told through the lens of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Brendan Sinclair // US Gamer Borderlands Legendary Collection: Another excellent compilation for the Switch library Thomas Morgan // Digital Foundry (Eurogamer) The Outer Worlds, BioShock, and Borderlands show the good and bad of Switch ports Chaim Gartenberg // The Verge A brief history of Paper Mario — The second article in two-part series detailing the history of the franchise, its current state, and what the new trailer for The Origami King tell us about what’s coming next. Jay Rooney // Level Up Media Think Animal Crossing is just a cutesy 'capitalist dystopia'? Think again — Yes, yet another Animal Crossing think piece... 😅 Amelia Tait // The Guardian The time is right for Microsoft and Nintendo to get comfier with one another Damien McFerran // Nintendo Life Celebrating Blackness in gaming’s past, present, and future Allisa James // DualShockers What Raymond from Animal Crossing taught me about personal growth Victor Lau // Super Jump Thwack! Snap! Listen to the satisfying sounds of Clubhouse Games Mike Fahey // Kotaku
