President Trump on Tuesday claimed he instructed his representatives to stop negotiating another stimulus deal until after the November in election, blasting Democrats’ proposal as too expensive and calling on the senate to focus on confirming his Supreme Court nominee.

KEY FACTS

Trump said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s $2.2 trillion proposal – which he incorrectly said costs $2.4 trillion – would “bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States” and include expenditures that are “in no way related to COVID-19.”

“I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election,” Trump tweeted, adding that, if he wins, he would immediately “pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business.”

Trump also said he instructed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to “focus full time” on the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett, hearings for which begin on Oct. 12.

More Stimulus News

Jerome Powell strongly advocated for a combination of aggressive fiscal and monetary stimulus. His comments undercut Republican arguments against a large stimulus package and implicitly seem to support a bigger relief bill, like the Democrats $2.2 trillion updated Heroes Act.

Last week, the House of Representatives
passed their latest version of the Heroes Act which would cost approximately $2.2 trillion. That package included a stimulus check, federal unemployment benefits at $600 per week, as well as $250 billion in aid to state and local governments.

Sentiment is still mixed and there's
cautious optimism about what the next few months could bring for investors. Q.ai, Forbes' investing AI has selected some Top Buys for today.
