Forbes - Historic Election Wins

Morning Banter

While voters wait for the presidential pick with bated breath, the 2020 election has already yielded some historic diversity firsts on both sides of the political aisle.

Here’s a snippet:

» Democrat Cori Bush will Missouri’s first Black congresswomen.

» Democrat Marilyn Strickland will become the first Korean-American elected to Congress.

» A record-breaking six Indigenous candidates won House seats.

» Republican Madison Cawthorn’s win in North Carolina will make her the youngest Congressperson in modern history.

» Delaware's Sarah McBride became the first openly transgender state senator.

» New York Democrats Mondaire Jones and Ritchie Torres are the first openly gay Black men elected to Congress.

Prior to this election, racial or ethnic minorities comprised 22% of the 116th Congress, making it the most racially and ethnically diverse class at the time.
