AD PRO - Celebrating the New AD100

Dear AD PRO Community,

The big news here this week has been the release on Tuesday of our annual AD100 list. Meriting a spot is an intensely desired honor among architects, interior designers, and landscape designers and it was exciting to watch the celebrations unfold on Instagram.

The editors and I worked purposefully for months to create a list that reflects the depth and diversity of talent in the U.S. and around the world right now. It’s an honor we take seriously here at AD. Whether a professional lands on it once in their career or several times, I contend that it’s like being an Oscar winner: Once AD100, always AD100.

This year 22 firms joined the illustrious group. And yesterday I hosted a panel on “Updating Traditional Design” with three of the newcomers: Joy Moyler, Corey Damen Jenkins, and Mark D. Sikes. In a time when people are so often focused on the newest and latest thing, we talked about what traditional means to each of them and explored how they reference classic design in their practices, while keeping things current and not too stuffy. As Corey so eloquently put it: “For me, traditional design is an evergreen. It’s something that is classically beautiful, yet also incredibly versatile. We really can’t know where we’re going in terms of moving this industry and the work that we do forward without knowing where we’ve been.”

It was a pleasure to talk to all three, and I look forward to hearing—and bringing you!—more words of wisdom from everyone on the list over the coming year. I hope that all of you will find this year’s list inspiring and full of the sense of promise and discovery that talents both familiar and fresh bring to our community.
