Topic #1

Ergatta

Ergatta bills itself as a “gaming-inspired connected rower”.

Founded in 2019, the startup has received $5M in seed funding to date.

Unlike Peloton, Ergatta doesn’t offer live classes. Instead, they focus on gamification techniques and daily challenges designed to push customers to work out more often.

But like Peloton, Ergatta has a subscription revenue model baked into the product.

What's next:
Ergatta is riding the “Peloton for X” meta trend.

Peloton’s annual revenue recently hit $1.8B (approximately 20% of which came from subscriptions). And dozens of fitness startups are attempting to replicate Peloton’s business model in different product categories.

Other examples of this trend include FightCamp (revenue estimated to be approximately $10M), CLMBR (raised $3.4M in October), and Zwift (valued at over $1B).

Topic #2

Natural Wine

Searches for “natural wine” are up 120% over the last 5 years.

As the name suggests, natural wine is wine made from organic grapes. And produced with minimal chemicals or additives.

The concept is as old as wine itself. (Around 8,000 years.)

But as people take stock of their health —and the health of the planet — interest in natural wine is on the rise. In fact, the organic wine market is set to grow from $11B today to $30B by 2030.

What's next:
Natural wine is part of a “natural alcohol” meta trend.

Examples of growing natural alcohol categories include hard kombucha, hard seltzer, and hard cold brew.

One of the fastest-growing players in this space is the natural alcohol DTC brand, Haus. Haus raised a $4.5M seed round in 2020. And has since raised two more seed rounds for undisclosed amounts.

Topic #3

VideoPeel

VideoPeel is a SaaS tool for collecting video testimonials from customers.

Founded by an ex-Facebook and Google product manager, the company reports that its videos have been viewed over 52 million times to date.

Based on their recent growth, VideoPeel raised a seed round led by Active Capital last year.

What's next:
VideoPeel is part of the micro SaaS meta trend.

Examples of fast-growing micro SaaS startups include:

Designrr: Design software for ebooks.

Conceptboard: Online whiteboard collaboration tool.

Descript: Podcast editing tool.

Zettlr: Markdown editor for writers and researchers.

Topic #4

Aim Lab

Aim Lab is software that uses AI to train users to improve their aim for shooter games.

It’s not the only program made for this purpose: there are also more basic options like Aimtastic and KovaaK’s FPS Aim Trainer. As well as the browser-based 3D Aim Trainer, which says it’s helped more than 3 million people improve their aim.

Aim Lab is growing with gamers because it offers advanced features (like custom performance insights and AI that adapts to a player’s strengths and weaknesses).

What's next:
Aim Lab is part of the egaming tools meta trend.

The global esports market is estimated to be worth $950M. And is set to reach $1.5B by 2023. Like pro athletes, pro esport players need high-end equipment to give them an edge.

Other examples of egaming equipment include gaming gloves, gaming monitors, and gaming chairs.
