NichePursuits.com - Passage Ranking Now Live...

You may have noticed recently that when you search for a very specific topic in Google, you often only want one or two sentences to get your answer.

Google now sometimes displays these important passages and even highlights them on the webpage you visit. See example below:

This "passage ranking" update was announced in October 2020, but it didn't officially go live in the US until Feb. 10th.

How big is this update? Well, according to Google this passage ranking update impacts up to 7% of all search queries.

That's huge!

So, if you have noticed an uptick or downtick in search traffic over the last week, this passage indexing could be part of the reason.

Currently, I don't have all the answers on how to optimize better for passage ranking. But the more "meat" and less "fluff" you have in your content, the better.

Stick to facts as opposed to opinions and you are more likely to include the types of difficult to find information and data that searchers want to find.

The Affiliate Lab is $200 Off

If anyone is going to figure out how to optimize passage ranking and any other nuance of SEO, it's likely going to be Matt Diggity and his team.

I recently published an interview with Matt about how to perform SEO tests right here.

As new updates come out, Matt is gathering data and performing tests to see what works to improve organic traffic.

He then shares all of these findings with his Affiliate Lab students.

The Affiliate Lab is a full training course for building and growing affiliate sites with organic SEO traffic.

If you want to check out what the Affiliate Lab is all about, it's currently $200 off for Niche Pursuits readers only right here.

This is a limited time offer, so if you are hoping to learn from someone like Matt Diggity, now is a great time to check it out.

Topical Authority Case Study

I recently read an article that was pretty mind blowing.

Koray Tuğberk GÜBÜR wrote an article that described how he took a site from basically no organic traffic to 11,000 organic clicks a day in a matter of about 6 months.

Check out this ahrefs growth chart:

He did all of this by focusing on semantic SEO and topical authority. He didn't do link building or technical SEO.

You can read about his topical authority and semantic SEO strategies here.

As a warning, this is an in-depth read that is not surface level. He dips his toes into Google patents and other difficult to understand concepts.

However, the bottom line is that topical coverage is critically important.

Internal linking structure is critically important.

Semantic SEO is also very important as Google gets better and better at understanding and grouping language into related subjects.

Overall, I hope you enjoy some of the ideas shared in this email!

Thanks again,

Spencer
