[Crew Review] Fake Amazon reviews for sale?

Integrity ain't cheap.

Five stars for £5

Paying someone in exchange for fake reviews isn’t news. But offering the services publicly and in bulk? That’s something else.

Just like the new Coronavirus strains, these fake review sites are getting more stubborn and more dangerous.

According to Which?, Amazon reviews are being offered in bulk for as little as £5 each. It found at least ten sites that openly offered these illegal services in exchange for money or free products.

And they don’t stop there.

Some of these sites have the option to take part in loyalty schemes that allow them to choose premium items.

And to make it seem like legitimate reviews, they even have a list of criteria for their reviewers. They also add photos and videos for extra credibility.

While we can understand the reason why some sellers would resort to questionable means for a ranking boost, there are still legal ways to get Amazon reviews.

Product and supplier research made easy

Helium 10 has partnered with Alibaba, and it’s going to make sellers’ lives easier.

Finding profitable products and a reliable supplier to manufacture them is essential to a private labeler’s success. This often involves going from one tab to another as you try to find the perfect match.

With this new partnership, you can search for a product on Amazon, run Xray with Helium 10, and immediately find suppliers from Alibaba.

There’s a button on the top right that triggers a new smaller window that allows you to browse suppliers. You can filter suppliers by indicating a price range, MOQ, and vendor rating—all within one tab.

And if you’re the kind who wants to do product research the other way around, this partnership also takes care of that.

Suppose you find a good supplier on Alibaba and are interested in their products but are not sure whether they will be profitable. Just use the new Demand Analyzer on the Helium 10 extension, and voila! You’ll get access to the product’s search volume, total and average revenue, as well as average price.

Sound good? You can get 50% off Helium 10 here.

The woman who can sell anything

If you’ve never heard of Viya, you should take some time today to look at her videos.

The 36-year-old, whose real name is Huang Wei, is what’s called a KOL (Key Opinion Leader), which is a fancier term for influencer.

Using her phone and charm, she’s making an impact in the Chinese economy through live streaming.

In 2019, she was able to sell thousands of Kim Kardashian’s perfume in just a few minutes. Tesla partnered with her to penetrate the Chinese market. And last year, she sold a rocket launch service worth $5.6 million!

Live streaming as a marketing approach has gained more popularity since people were forced to stay home and spend more time in front of their screens (thanks, COVID). Grand View Research predicts that live streaming will grow to $223.98 billion by 2028.

Make no mistake about it. E-commerce is going live.

A tale of two lawsuits

Intellectual property rights are a big deal.

Last week, four individuals and three organizations got a taste of exactly what this means.

Amazon and Salvatore Ferragamo filed two joint lawsuits against counterfeiters who are using the e-commerce giant as a platform. Fake products using the brand’s trademark had been circulating, and they’re finally calling them out and taking legal action.

There are already systems in place to prevent counterfeits such as the launching of the Brand Registry and the Counterfeit Crimes Unit. However, there are still sellers who continue selling fake products on Amazon.

Other sellers, on the other hand, infringe intellectual property rights unknowingly. This can be avoided by learning more about IP.
