Issue 157 - Learning with Andrej Karpathy

Cybertruck & Semi

Cybertruck: Look ma, no handles!
Some news about the Cybertruck, Elon tweeted that it won't have handles. I assume it will have a similar mechanism as the new Roadster.

Rumor: Tesla to start building the Cybertruck sooner than expected
Several folks have reported this at the same time. According to some sources (or maybe only one?), Tesla is building the production line in Fremont and plans to ship it to Giga Texas, and start production sometime in Q3. Do you think is possible?

Semi testing in Fremont
Love the Semi, I can't wait to see them on the road!

FSD Beta

Andrej Karpathy on the visionary AI in Tesla's autonomous driving ðŸŽ™
Super interesting (and rare) interview to Andrej Karpathy, Director of AI at Tesla, where he talks about how he immigrated to Canada, came to Stanford to do his Ph.D., started the class about deep learning, and of course his experience at Tesla. It is always great to hear Andrej talking about AI, he makes it sound so simple. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world!

FSD Beta on city streets 🎙
An extract of the podcast that I mentioned above. It's really interesting to hear how they collect and analyze the data that we, the drivers, provide, even not in AP.

Antioch, CA through the eyes of FSD Beta 📹
I love projecting the FSD visualization on top of what he is recording. Really nice video.

You can now purchase a Tesla with Bitcoin
Elon said this was coming a few weeks ago. Probably a good option if you happen to have a bunch of Bitcoin and "don't know what to do with them".

Download the original Roadster service manual, free
Tesla just released them for free, thanks Greentheonly for noticing!

Model refreshes

See how to change gears in the refreshed S and X 📹
Refreshed S and X are coming without a gear stalk and instead, they have what Tesla calls 'smart shift'. With the smart shift, the car will try to predict the gear that you want, which sounds great but, what if you want to override it? Well, it seems that you can just slide the car on the screen for it to change from D to R.

Tesla gets ready to add new Model Y version after certifying Long Range RWD
Is Tesla finally going to release the LR AWD version of their Model Y? It would make sense since they killed the SR version a month or so ago, under 250 miles of range wasn't acceptable for Tesla, I know a bunch of people who would be extremely happy if this is true.

What the acronym

As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
  • AI - Artificial Intelligence
  • AWD - All-Wheel Drive
  • FSD - Full Self-Driving
  • LR - Long Range
  • SR - Standard Range
