Nintendo shows off loads of great Indies
He's wearing a Fez. Web version | Unsubscribe Hey, Chris here with issue #228 of Switch Weekly, hope you've had a good week. Here's what you need to know about all things 'tendo. Big news this week was the Indie World presentation. I thought it was a really solid showing with a refreshing variety of titles, and a strong international focus. Good stuff. If you missed it, I've linked it up below along with a list of all the news that came from it. We've got just under 30 games hitting the Switch next week, including a new round of Picross from Jupiter, and a game about tax evasion. Full list below as ever. Finally, if you're enjoying the newsletter, did you know you can support it from just $1 over on Patreon? It helps keep it sustainable and accessible to all. Anyway, that's all from me. 🎮 Currently Playing — Super Mario World, Godstrike ▶ Indie World Showcase — 20-minutes of upcoming Indie announcements. Plenty to get excited about here I reckon, including Road 96, Never Yield, OlliOlli World, the new Turtles game, anything Annapurna are putting out, Oxenfree 2 and more. Well worth a watch. Oh, and I love that Fez is now on Switch — great game, superb soundtrack. Nintendo // YouTube Here's everything announced in Nintendo's Indie World showcase— If you would rather not watch the whole thing linked above here's a written round-up with individual trailers for you to pick and choose from. Matt Wales // Eurogamer BOOK REVIEW Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom from Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's Legendary CEO — I've not got my copy just yet (there seems to have been some sort of delay here in the UK), but I'm very much looking forward to reading this little slice of insight. It sounds like it really does confirm that Iwata was a much admired and respected individual the likes we likely won't see again. Thomas Whitehead // Nintendo Life PREVIEW New Pokemon Snap — After 22 years we finally get a new Snap. It arrives later this month, and this preview seems positive saying it "effectively captures the magic of the original" whilst adding welcome new machanics and a new region to traverse. Brian Shea // Game Informer Two nature photographers explain the New Pokemon Snap trailer Stacey Henley // The Gamer Nintendo quietly shuts down its Labo website — The official North American Labo site got taken down earlier this week, which many took as a suggestion that we won't be seeing any more Labo sets in the future. I think that sounds about right, but if they don't let you use the Labo Camera in the New Pokemon Snap game then they are missing a trick. Max Fagandini // Game Rant REVIEW Rain on Your Parade — "more or less delivers on what it promises. It's a clever and charming game that's bound to put a big, dumb smile on your face". CJ Andriessen // Destructoid REVIEW Godstrike — This bullet hell game is said to be "rather underwhelming [..] the overall unpolished feel of its design and presentation really drag down the otherwise solid controls". Mitch Vogel // Nintendo Life REVIEW Genesis Noir Paul Roberts // Vooks REVIEW Future Aero Racing S Ultra Joel A. De Witte // Nintendo World Report Ex-Nintendo designer says F-Zero isn't dead, it's just 'hard to bring back'— He calls GX "the ultimate F-Zero". Esra Krabbe's full interview with Takaya Imamura is excellent, and well worth a read — don't skip it. Adam Bankhurst // IGN Switch classic games: How to load your console with over 900 retro titles Chris Scullion // VGC The exquisite liminality of Zelda: Skyward Sword Kate Gray // Nintendo Life
