Global feminist journalism program, Ecosexuality, Cannibis legalization & women's rights in Mexico

Welcome to The Bloom, a global social justice resource!
Enjoy our small seeds of joy with an intersectional feminist lens.

How Mexican feminists interweave fight for decriminalizing cannibis and women's rights: This month, the Senate is expected to approve legalization of recreational marijuana. Activists have joined the fight, recognizing the unique relationship between the plant and women's history, and an opportunity to reclaim that connection. → Story

Sex, nature, and Hawaiian plant medicine – an essay in praise of ecosexuality: Elevating our consciousness means being connected to the world around us, in humanity and in nature. It's a perspective beautifully articulated in an essay by the director of the Limahuli Garden, one of 5 National Tropical Botanical Gardens in the world. → Essay

Latest edition of The Indigenous World report published by International Group for Indigenous Affairs: The report is a comprehensive resource and result of a collaborative effort between Indigenous and non-indigenous activists and scholars who voluntarily document and report on the situation of Indigenous Peoples’ rights. → Report

💡to learn

Investigative climate reporting resources for journalists.

The importance of looking to queer and disabled people in fighting the climate crisis: "The history of disabled queer and trans people has continually been one of creative problem-solving within a society that refuses to center our needs. If we can build an intersectional climate justice movement—one that incorporates disability justice, that centers disabled people of color and queer and gender nonconforming folks with disabilities—our species might have a chance to survive."

6 May Four anti-racism youth voices in the UK come together to discuss how they are pushing for changes in their communities, and how we can build anti-racism into the structures around us. It's a fantastic opportunity to connect and learn from a group of young activists leading local change across education, policy, agriculture, and media.

An interview with Coyote Park, an oral historian and creative reclaiming the way Indigenous and queer stories are told in the media.

As many of you in the community know, sometimes the hardest part of learning a new language is actually maintaining a relationship to that language – whether that's in hearing it regularly, casually seeing new words in the spaces around you; essentially, integrating that language into your everyday life. One of the most incredible products I encountered recently addresses exactly this challenge and takes language learning to a whole. new. level.

Toucan is a language learning tool that, in my humble opinion, is more realistic than other popular tools like Duolingo. It's realistic because it's small, passive, and integrates the learning process into your everyday life by occasionally changing single words in your web browser to whatever language you're learning. In this way, Toucan beautifully represents the power of "little seeds" - those small but meaningful sources of potential and growth.

My passion for Toucan led me to want to learn more about the humans behind the tool, and what I learned only increased my love for it. They're committed to building a team that leads a balanced, healthy, and impactful life because they know that’s where the best products come from – and it really shows. Take a look at their job openings  page (they are hiring *fully remotely*!!) even if you're not applying. It's a special example of what a company that prioritizes the wellbeing of its community looks like, where there's transparency, clarity, and a badass list of benefits like "employees get two free books per month" and "take trips to refresh your brain and inspire you to do your best work."

*This is not a sponsored post - it's an honest reflection on a product I love, and hope will add more meaning to your life and career, if you choose to apply to their jobs :)
