Album Daily Week #75 April 26th - 30th

Happy Monday, Album Daily Subscribers!

This Monday we wanted to take a second to brag on ourselves. If you don't do it, then no one will, right? We received the below from a subscriber this past week. It warms our beat-filled hearts to know that we, and the music we're sending out, can have even small impact on your lives. Please keep sending us the good, the bad and the ugly feedback- we read and consider every message that we get!

"I've really been getting a lot of value out of Album Daily for new music discovery. I have a small baby right now, which means my Spotify recommendations are completely torpedoed (I listed to 90% nursery rhymes, it has a big effect on the algorithms šŸ˜). So Album Daily is great in the first instance just for surfacing music to me.

But it's more than that. Spotify is good at showing me stuff that's similar to what I already like, but it's not so great at bringing me out of my comfort zone. In my case, I've been aware for a while that some really creative, experimental art is being produced by hip hop artists, and I've not so much been getting involved. Album Daily does that for me."

We couldn't have said in better ourselves. Have a great week everyone!

Bluesy, groovy and funky. If you're drinking anything other than whiskey (neat) to this one then you're doing it wrong. For some reason it also sounds best when you're wearing a wide brimmed cowboy hat. I think something to do with the acousticsā€¦

Dan Auerbach, the frontman for The Black Keys, sure likes to keep busy. In Yours, Dreamily, he wrangles together some friends and studio buddies that he's worked with on various previous projects and crams them into the studio for two weeks and out comes this hefty blues album. It sounds like it comes straight out of a western with off-kilter percussion, heavily distorted guitar leads and some whining keys in the background.

Did you know? Dan Auerbach is as acclaimed for his production as he is for his guitar solos. He's helped produce albums for the likes of Lana Del Rey, CeeLo Green and Cage the Elephant. When he moved to Nashville from his hometown of Akron, Ohio, he even purchased a studio for his record label, Easy Eye Sound. Check out the above article that breaks down some of the artists and albums released under his label.

Genre: Indie-Alternative
Release Date: October 16, 2020
Top Tracks: The Apartment, Monsters, Ultra Mega Love

If nothing else, just listen to ā€˜The Apartment.ā€™ That song is repeat-worthy. Foreign Air isnā€™t your average indie-alt band. They racked up 100 million streams before they even released a full-length album. Theyā€™ve put a ton of thought into the production of Good Morning Stranger and thereā€™s a song (Life Goes On) thatā€™s not even in our top-3 for the album but itā€™s featured on MLB The Show 21. This album has got some classic rock feels, modern alternative rock style, and a production quality that really sets the indie-alternative rock genre apart. You get way more than just guitar and vocals on this one. We think thereā€™s a favorite song for you all on this 2020 album.

Click here to read about Good Morning Stranger. Fun fact about these guys: their music has been featured on global advertising campaigns for Samsung, Nike, Vodafone, and Microsoft. Itā€™s only a matter of time before Apple picks them up for one of their classic iPhone commercials with someone dancing through the street.

SG Lewis

Genre: Electronic
Release Date: February 19, 2021
Top Tracks: One More, Feed the Fire, Chemicals
Similar Artists: Disclosure, Big Wild, Jai Wolf

This last year has brought a lot of old trends back. Baggy jeans ā€”> BACK. My uncleā€™s completely uneducated political rants ā€”> BACK. Disco music --> BACK. Donā€™t believe me? Go back and re-listen to Dua Lipaā€™s Grammy winning album, The Weekndā€™s Super Bowl half-time show, or better yet, SG Lewisā€™ funky new project, times. While it may not be the exact disco beats of old, the influence is abundantly clear and whether youā€™re a disco hater or a disco stan, thereā€™s no stopping the nu-disco revolution from taking over. times is a groovy set of house tunes centered around bubbly baselines and fun-loving lyrics that make it impossible not to crack a smile or tap your feet.

No Sleep

Honey Hounds

Genre: Blues
Release Date: November 4, 2016
Top Tracks: Spinach, Animals, I Got What You Need
Similar Artists: Ava Max, Nea, Drax Project

Hereā€™s a chance to get in on the ground floor people! The Honey Hounds are a ā€œbooty shakinā€™ blues trioā€ from Jacksonville, FL with just over 30k monthly listeners on Spotify right now. The ā€™Hounds play southern rock-inspired blues that feels a little like Sublime at times. No Sleep would be the perfect album to let play during your summer cookout while absolutely embarrassing your brother-in-law in cornhole. 21-0 means you have to leave, Dale.

Click here to learn more about the band. The Honey Hounds are all hometown friends. Nicholas Izzard was the founding member of Honey Hounds. He dropped out of college in 2012 and started to pursue his own solo career when he eventually met back up with Tyler Watts. Nicholas and Tyler moved to the Florida Keys in 2015 and then spent the rest of the year refining their sound. Eventually they brought in Nathan Ranew, moved up to Jacksonville, and finalized their debut album: No Sleep.

The Game

Queen

Genre: Rock
Release Date: June 24, 1980
Top Tracks: Another One Bites The Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Similar Artists: Elton John, The Beatles, Aerosmith

Anything from Queen is just an absolute classic! It was tough to pick a specific album but Another Bites The Dust is my favorite so I had to go with that. The album elicits a wide range of emotions, from the more melancholy tone of Save Me & Play The Game to the more funky, upbeat Another One Bites The Dust & Crazy Little Thing Called Love. What's not to love?!
