Could Switch become the best selling console of all time?
No Chips No Dips. Web version | Unsubscribe Hi, here's issue #231 of Switch Weekly, with your round-up of the week in Nintendo. Last week I mentioned that I had not picked up New Pokemon Snap at launch. Well, I've since got a copy...and I gotta tell ya, it really isn't grabbing me. I think my nostalgia for the original did some heavy lifting in my desire to get this, as the core gameplay here just seems slow, repetitive, and isn't really engaging me. Admittedly, I haven't put a ton of time into it yet, but my initial impression is that while it's a very chill experience, it seems dangerously close to flipping from chill...to boring. I'm hoping it picks up. Did you get it? If so, hit reply and let me know what you think, tell me I'm wrong / right. Anyway, over 20 games are hitting the Switch over next week, and the remaster of the Famicom Detective Club Games seems to be the highlight. Here's a good thread on Reddit detailing what they are and why they matter. Big Nintendo records, a new IP, and even a tantalising Waluigi render in the issue below. 🎮 Currently Playing — Yoshi's Island 2, New Pokemon Snap Switch nears 85 million in record year for Nintendo —Good times for Nintendo. The company has a record year, reporting its biggest annual profit in history. The Switch is nearly at 85M, and Peer Scheider of IGN thinks it could go on to be the best selling console of all time. Other tidbits inlcude: Animal Crossing now stands at over 32M units sold, and Ring Fit Adventure has sold oer 10M. Crazy stuff. Oh, and Nintendo are spending big on research and development for what ever comes next. Tom Ivan // VGC Nintendo’s next Switch game will let you develop your own games— Love the look of this, and always great to see new ideas and IP. 'Game Builder Garage' is a quirky visual programming tool you can use to create your own games (and share em). It's out in June and will be priced at around $30. Download only for those in Europe though, as there won't be a physical release in the region. If you like the sound of this then FUZE is a similar, seemingly more involed, take on the idea. Michael McWhertor // Polygon Game Builder Garage promises a Nintendo masterclass in creativity Christian Donlan // Eurogamer Game Builder Garage could help make the next generation of game devs Kate Gray // Nintendo Life REVIEW The Longing — "a very special game that alters how someone plays a game, what a puzzle can be, or even what a game can be".
