Yuva Yoga - All that happens to us...

… leads to yoga
How did you come to practice yoga ?

I remember sitting side by side with my beloved friend Anna during our Special Yoga for Adults training and reflecting upon that!
We talked about what brought us to this place and time, why we practice or want to teach yoga and all the pain and suffering that happened and attracted us to gentler ways of moving our body and finding internal peace.

I can't publish Anna's story, but I can tell you mine:
I was diagnosed with Lupus nephritis that progressively lead to kidney failure. I eventually needed dialysis and in 2014 I received a kidney transplant.
There was unbearable fatigue, and tonnes of treatments and drugs that did not work.
There was an identity crisis as I moved away from what I thought was my dream job (process engineering) and seeing my beloved husband become my carer.

I had to let go of who I thought I was while my heart (and body) was breaking... yoga saved me.

Anna and I shared this and all about our physical and emotional pain and said "why do we all have to be broken to discover yoga??"

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱𝗹𝘆!!
"A writer — and, I believe, generally all persons — must think that whatever happens to him or her is a resource. All things have been given to us for a purpose, and an artist must feel this more intensely. All that happens to us, including our humiliations, our misfortunes, our embarrassments, all is given to us as raw material, as clay, so that we may shape our art."

I want to take a moment and translate this through the conversation Anna and I had back in 2019:
A yoga practitioner — and, I believe, generally any person — must think that whatever happens to him or her is a gift. All gifts have been given to us for a purpose, and as yoga practitioner we must not waste it. All that happens to us, including our hurts, our misfortunes, our pain, all is given to us as raw material, as clay, so that we may shape ourselves to a truer and more beautiful form, or to simply discover this beautiful practice of yoga.

So...how did you discover yoga? Let me know, hit reply 💗

Big Love, Maria x
