Welcome new subscribers!

Now that those of us currently basking or in many places baking in the Northern Hemisphere hellscape that is runaway climate change can attest to, summer is officially here! With that, I hope you're going to take a bit of time to chill the hell out for a bit and get some relaxation in. After the last 15 months or so, I think we all deserve it.

And as a quick reminder, ad spots for the featured podcast are now booking into October, so there's no time like the present to book an ad spot and lock in that sweet, low rate.

Parricide Podcast

This podcast is my wife's worst nightmare. That's probably because she's watched one too many children of the corn style movies where it's the kids that turn out to be the killers. Wait, is that even an accurate reference? Oh who cares, suffice to say, Parricide is a thing, and it happens maybe more often than you think.

I have to warn you, as far as true crime podcasts go, this one is a bit disturbing. But if that's sort of your thing and you definitely don't mind hearing the nitty-gritty, yet often gruesome details of what goes down when a child murders their parent or parents, then oh boy is this podcast for you! I must admit, it's a fascinating take on the true-crime genre, and though it's a young podcast with only nine episodes so far, it's a great take on this tried and well-trodden part of the podcasting world. True crime aficionados, add this one to your list.

Tumanbay

I'm actually kind of bummed that it took me this long to discover this podcast. As one reviewer put it... it's like ... "Game of Thrones... but in Podcast form". Now that's a bold claim, but I wouldn't quibble with it too much. Now in its epic fourth season, this incredible fantasy series centers around the city of Tumanbay - the most magnificent city on earth. Professionally scored with an incredible set of voice actors, sound engineering, if you're into long-form, binge-worthy fantasy fiction, this podcast is not to be missed.

Astronomy Cast

Astronomy lovers unite! Yes, I'm a space nerd. Throw anything related to space at my feet, and I'll chew on that shit like a rabid wildebeest until there's nothing left, but the entrails of sweet new knowledge about the cosmos. Ok, that was a weird analogy, but hey... if you're looking for an incredibly long-running and well-respected podcast about all things astronomy, you won't go wrong with this show. Just clicky and subscribe, and off you go into the seemingly never-ending exploration of everything beyond our puny little planet.

TRUE CRIME

Confronting: Columbine

I recently had a conversation with an excellent friend of mine who happens to be quite the podcast-consuming fiend as well, and he was mentioning how good all the stuff that Wondery produces is, and I couldn't agree more. This podcast, now in its second season takes a deep and emotional look back at the tragedy of Columbine high school. This show is about an event now over twenty years in our rear-view mirror that still remains one of the most culturally impactful moments in recent American history. What I found most astounding was hearing the first-hand accounts of those that were there, and how Columbine has continued to affect their lives.

Death at the Wing

A shocking and perhaps in hindsight, unsurprisingly high number of young basketball stars lost their lives in the '80s and early '90s. But why? What was it about the NBA and the sudden rise of incredible wealth and stardom that lead to so many tragedies? Selfishness, violence, racism, all played a role. And here's the story of how that all came to pass. A truly great show for fans of both history, and sports.
