Trevor McKendrick - Ghost engineers

Hi all,

PSA: If you’re applying for YC, now or in the future, I’m happy to give feedback on your application & do a practice interview with you.

Turning complicated ideas into pithy pitches is one of my strengths, and IMO writing & speaking clearly is one of the most important parts of getting into YC.

I’ve done this for others in prior batches & just heard from another set of cofounders who were accepted yesterday into the next batch.

Doing YC remains one of the best things you can do to increase your likelihood of startup success, so if I can be helpful to you getting access let me know.

FTX co-founder (Gary Wang) receives no prison time (article)

Perhaps my understanding of the federal justice system is off, but it’s been very surprising to me that the non-SBF leaders of FTX have received so little jail time. Caroline received 2 years, and now Gary was sentenced to time served.

The prosecutors say this is because they were extremely helpful as witnesses.

But compare that to e.g. Enron, where my understanding is the most helpful leader in the case was Andrew Fastow, who received a 6 year sentence. I guess I’d expected Carline & Gary to receive sentences closer to his.

A meta point here that I don’t see discussed super widely is how inconsistent prison sentences are. It also feels like many, many people who’ve rightly gone to prison for in fact committing a crime would also have many legitimate critiques of the fairness of the entire process… but of course no one really cares about listening to criminals.

A guy built a model to determine engineering productivity (tweet)

The headline that’s grabbing attention is “9.5% of software engineers do virtually nothing.”

In the fulness of developer work, this feels to me and seems to be agreed on on Twitter to be… basically true?

Watch this Volvo commercial (video in tweet)

This will probably only resonate if you have kids. At least, it wouldn’t have worked on me before I had a kid.
