100+ active female angel investors in Europe

For the first time ever, Sifted has compiled a big old list of active female angel investors in Europe.

Female angel investors are in the minority on the continent — the most recent figures put the average for the region at 11% of all angels — and that has a significant knock-on effect on the number of female founders raising early-stage funding.

So... let's change that! Read the list here.

\Our latest report on Construction Tech

Who are the construction tech startups to watch?

Read our latest report to find out which startups are rebuilding the foundations of Europe’s construction industry — and who will come out on top.

The combined value of healthtech startups in Europe is now $41bn, up from $8bn in 2016 — and more just keep coming.

We asked the founders of leading healthtechs like Ada Health, Cera Care and Kry which up-and-comers they're watching closely.

Find out who — and why — here.

Remote joins the unicorn club

Remote, which helps companies hire and pay employees based anywhere in the world, has just become Portugal's fifth unicorn.

It's seen revenue increase 65-fold over the last year and has been backed by a classy set of investors (Accel, Sequoia and Index).

Freya Pratty reports.

What companies that are great at open innovation get right

The best innovation ideas can come from a fresh set of eyes, from external specialists and other organisations — and that's where open innovation comes in.

Open innovation offers huge benefits, from new revenue streams for corporations — which translate to higher valuations — and scaling opportunities for startups.

We spoke with open innovation experts to find out how to do it well.

News that Matters

🚚 On-demand delivery. Snappy Shopper, a Scottish home delivery platform enabling local retailers to develop successful home delivery offerings, has raised £19.4m. Shame about its abysmal branding.

✈️ Heart Aerospace soars. The Swedish company building a 19-seater electric airplane has raised a $35m Series A round led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures. For more on the company's plans, read this Sifted piece.

📈 Eka Ventures has closed a £68m fund. The early-stage UK-based impact investor is focusing on sustainable consumption, consumer healthcare and the 'inclusive economy'.

Sifted Suggests

🤝 Surviving startup acquisitions. When the company you work for gets bought, it can often not be all that much fun. But there are things that managers can do to help employees cope, as Miriam Partington finds out.

🛍️ (Don't) shop till you drop. Klarna is taking the world by storm, allowing online shoppers to pay later at no extra cost. But how does it work? And are there risks?

🚆 The psychological benefits of commuting. Do you miss your commute? In this excellent Atlantic article, Jerry Useem explores how staying at home has led to people experiencing an unexpected void.

📊 European VC funds are catching up with their counterparts. A report by Invest Europe highlights how European VC funds generated an IRR of 11.09% and a MOIC of 1.97x, outperforming the MSCI Europe which returned 7.82% and 1.33x.

📅 What's the best day to go into work? In this Wired article, Chris Stokel-Walker debunks the myth that there's a ‘best’ day to go into the office — and points out that we are generally pretty grumpy at the start of the week.
