Japandi

Japandi is an interior design style that combines elements from Japanese and Scandinavian traditions.

A survey from Furniture Today found that 29% of consumers cite “modern” as their favorite home decor style – up from just 9% two years ago.

The same survey found that “traditional” was the second most popular style, chosen by 23% of respondents.

The Scandinavian concept of “hygge” relates to comfort and coziness. When fused with some of the more modern aspects of Japanese design, Japandi hits both of these consumer decor tastes.

We’re seeing a growing number of Japandi products on Etsy and Amazon. In fact, one Etsy store has sold more than 3,000 Japandi planters to date.

Japandi is part of the home improvement 2.0 meta trend.

Home Depot reported that average consumer spending rose by 10% after the first lockdowns came into effect.

This growth is set to continue as the global home decor market is forecast to rise to $838.6B by 2027 (up from $616.6B in 2019).

For example, Deconovo is a DTC furnishings company specializing in curtains. The startup’s annual revenue is now $5.1M.

Other rapidly-growing brands within the category include Carvapet, Backdrop, and Modway.

Topic #2

Carl bot

Carl-bot is a Discord administration and moderation bot.

The bot has been installed on 3.5M servers, which have a combined member count of 415M.

One of its most popular features is enabling “reaction roles”. This allows users to assign themselves roles within a server by reacting with a specified emoji. Roles have many potential uses, like determining access to locked channels.

Carl-bot can also automatically ban server members, and delete suspect messages. At peak hours, the bot sends 5K automated messages in less than a minute.

And Carl-bot has 1440 “shards”. Sharding involves splitting bot operations across separate processes in order to handle the demand.

Carl-bot currently has 1,598 supporters on Patreon.

Carl-bot is part of the Discord extensions meta trend.

Discord has raised a total of $482.6M in confirmed funding. A $100M raise last December valued the company at $7B.

And there are now an estimated 140M monthly active users. Which means Discord has grown to 42% the size of Twitter in less than 6 years.

Top.gg is a site for discovering bots that can be added to servers. There are 43 different categories listed.

There’s even a growing niche category of “Discord certified” gaming gear — a Corsair gaming headset generates estimated monthly revenue of $374K (AmzScout).

Other exploding Discord-related topics include Discord Street, Loritta, and Mee6.

Topic #3

The Pink Stuff

The Pink Stuff is a household cleaning products brand.

The label has become a viral sensation on social media. #ThePinkStuff videos have amassed 230M views on TikTok, often featuring alongside #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt (4.5B views).

These videos primarily feature The Pink Stuff’s cleaning paste, designed for use on stains. The product has received over 78K ratings on Amazon. And AmzScout estimates that the product brings in $37K per day.

What's next:
The Pink Stuff is part of the “viral cleaning hacks” meta trend.

Like The Pink Stuff, #CleaningHacks is an extremely popular hashtag on TikTok — to the tune of 2.4B views. While the “cleaning” hashtag has amassed 15.6B views to date.

Individual accounts dedicated to cleaning have gathered huge numbers of followers on social media. Clean My Space has 1.76M YouTube subscribers. While “The Queen of Clean” has 246K followers on Instagram. Which is why influencer marketing is becoming an increasingly viable channel for the cleaning industry.

For instance, cleaning brands Zoflora and Minky both saw products sell out nationwide after they were promoted by Mrs Hinch (4.1M Instagram followers).

Other cleaning products that have seen growth accelerated through social channels include Folex and Mrs Meyer’s.

Topic #4

Overgear

Overgear is a rank boosting marketplace for popular video games, specializing in World of Warcraft.

The startup takes a 12-16% commission on all services sold on the marketplace. Last year, more than $8M of sales went through the site.

Overgear employs 50 people, compared to a staff of just 15 at launch.

And currently generates $1M in monthly revenue.

What's next:
Overgear is part of the Pro Gamer Tools meta trend.

Mordor Intelligence reports that the gaming industry as a whole is worth $162.32B. This is forecast to grow to $295.63B by 2026.

And with 2.69B gamers worldwide (Newzoo), there is a huge market for tools and accessories designed to give pro gamers an edge.

Overgear outsources gaming altogether to help players level up and unlock achievements. But many pro gamers are seeking out gaming coaches. In November last year, industry giant Corsair acquired coaching marketplace Gamer Sensei. The platform had raised $6.3M in funding at that point.

Other fast-growing topics within the category include gaming gloves, gaming mice, and gaming glasses.
