Examples of Sites with a Low Multiple...

Can you still buy niche sites for less than a 30x multiple?

Yes!

Is that a good idea? Well, that's a valid question. Let's take a look at some examples.

While there are many sites for sale that are commanding high multiples of 40x and above, there are some sites on Motion Invest that are listed at a much lower than average multiple.

I shared in my recent post on the Motion Invest numbers that the average multiple at which sites are selling on the platform is 35.5x.

Here are 3 sites currently listed for sale on Motion Invest that are well below this multiple.

This site is in the kayak and fishing niche, and it’s listed at a 29x multiple.

The positives:

  • Strong DR (24) and DA (33)
  • Great links from the likes of the LA Times, AirBNB, and Fatherly
  • 80 articles ranking for 2,416+ keywords

The reason it has not yet sold and has a lower sale multiple is probably due to decreasing traffic and revenue. It’s never the best sign!

However, the right buyer could turn things around. During its highest-earning month in March 2021, it earned $1,891.

Find out more about this site here - it’s listed as a Dutch Auction so the price will keep dropping until the reserve is met or someone buys it.

Next up is this home products site that is listed at a 28x multiple.

The positives:

  • Good earnings for relatively low traffic numbers
  • No display ads so an instant earning opportunity
  • 50 articles ranking for 1,469+ keywords

It’s hard to say why it hasn’t sold yet (although I didn't personally analyze the backlink profile yet, so perhaps that would offer some clues).

There is a wide range of content from the best backpacks to the different types of pillow stuffing, and it seems to be lacking a clear content direction and strategy. However, it’s getting traffic and making money, so there’s an opportunity for someone that can focus on a single sub-niche and get those earnings up.

Find out more about this site here - it’s also for sale as a Dutch Auction.

And lastly, we have this 7-year-old footwear niche website that is listed for a 24x monthly earnings multiple.

The positives:

  • Links from sites like Business Insider
  • Decent web design
  • 177 articles ranking for 2,800+ keywords

If you take a look at this site in Ahrefs, you’ll see why this site is listed at a much lower multiple than average. It looks like it’s been hit by some kind of penalty. However, it continues to get a good amount of traffic and earnings haven’t dramatically dropped off. An experienced buyer could turn things around.

Find out more about this site here - it is also listed as a Dutch Auction but has reached its reserve and won’t be dropping any further. Motion Invest does have a ‘submit an offer’ feature so take a look and consider what you think it’s worth.

Besides these three listings, Motion Invest has 17 other websites for sale here.
