NichePursuits.com - Niche Sites: 10 Years Ago vs Now

Ten years ago I published my first Authority Site project update on Niche Pursuits. Kind of fun to look back on things.

Interestingly enough a lot of things are very similar to how they were 10 years ago. But also, a lot was different.

For comparison, my site was already making $35.76 in the first 30 days of starting my project. My latest niche site project for Own the Yard took me 4 months to generate $26.66 in revenue.

(Fortunately, my Own The Yard project has gone on to make MUCH more than that!)

So, what's changed with niche sites over the past 10 years?

• Well, it takes longer to rank in Google.
• Content needs to be higher quality.
• Low quality links won't help your site.
• E-A-T is much more important.
• More competition

However, lots of things have NOT really changed in the last 10 years:

• My keyword research process is essentially the same. Target low competition / long tail keywords <---- Still works!
• More and more NEW search queries are happening each year on Google.
• Answering specific questions / queries with your content still works well.
• Quality links still helps.
• Smart internal linking still helps.

There may be a bit more competition than there was 10 years ago, but there are also millions more people making Google searches each day.

Additionally, publishing tools have made finding keywords and optimizing your site even easier today than in years past.

Its not too late to start a blog, and building niche sites is likely to be around for another 10 years+.
