Presenting the Academy of American Poets’ 2021–2022
Fall–Winter Season

Join us for our upcoming season of virtual events, which will run from October 2021 through February 2022 and include a conversation series with the Academy of American Poets Chancellors and other esteemed guests; Gather in Poems, a reading by the chancellors celebrating poetry and community; special partner events; and the Annual Blaney Lecture on contemporary poetry and poetics.

The Academy is committed to hosting accessible, inclusive events. Each event will be free to attend with advance registration and have closed captioning available. If you require an accommodation or service that is not currently offered by the organization, or if you are experiencing any accessibility issues with the registration site, please contact us at academy@poets.org at least 24-hours prior to the event.

Gather in Poems 

Join us for another special evening of Gather in Poems, a reading and offering of community from the Academy of American Poets Board of Chancellors. Each poet will share a poem that inspires them, as well as works of their own, on the theme of coming together. Thursday, November 18, at 7 p.m. EST.

Poetry & Appetite, a virtual conversation with Academy Chancellors Ellen BassMarilyn Chin, Forrest GanderTerrance Hayes, and David St. John on poetry and appetite, and on poems about the desires and needs of the body and of communities. Thursday, December 9, at 7 p.m. EST. Register for this free, virtual event here.

Deadline Approaching

This Friday, October 1, is the last day to submit your manuscript to the 2022 Academy of American Poets First Book Award, the nation’s most generous first-book prize for poetry, judged by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Tyehimba Jess. The winner will receive $5,000 and their manuscript will be published by Graywolf Press in 2023. The recipient will be announced in April 2022 during National Poetry Month.

The Academy of American Poets is seeking a full-time Membership & Development Associate who will assist in work to grow the base of supporters of the organization to meet fundraising goals. 

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers in New York City is seeking a full-time Associate Manager, Regional Partner Network to train and support more than 100 of the Alliance for Young Artist & Writers’ partners across the United States.

Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of English in Writing Center Administration and Rhetoric and Composition Studies. 

Yale University Press in New Haven, Connecticut, is seeking a full-time Senior Editor to acquire twelve-fifteen books per year in the humanities.
