October 21, 2021

When Microsoft announced Windows 11, it made a huge deal about the new OS’s overhaul and how the company thought through “every pixel and detail.” I know it’s hard to believe, but that doesn’t seem accurate.

Between glaring typos in Paint and a crippled version of File History, we’ve already levied some complaints against Windows 11 recently. But now we want to point out that one of the most significant issues with Windows 10 still exists in Windows 11. The Microsoft Store is completely overrun with scammy apps that trick people into spending money on free programs. It’s just plain awful. And the worst part? All these “crapps” are approved by human moderators. Get the details in the top story.

Other Highlights:

  • Hey, speaking of the Microsoft store, you can finally try out Amazon Android apps if you’re on a Beta Insider build. And if you’re on the Dev channel—sorry about your luck.
  • I bet you have someone in your life that loves Roblox. And we have just the thing for you—all the best Roblox gifts in one place.
  • Yesterday Google announced a new subscription offering to get you a Pixel and some of its best services. We took a long hard look at it, and guess what: it’s not worth the money.
  • …and more!

For example, within seconds of opening the Microsoft Store, we found a scammy paid version of Apple’s free QuickTime player, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Read More »

Android Apps Make Their Confusing Windows 11 Debut

After what seems like months (oh wait, it’s been four months), the Windows 11 operating system can now run Android apps. But only if you’re a Windows Insider. Oh, and you have to be on the Beta channel, because Android apps don’t work on the Dev build yet. This is confusing! Read More »

Pixel Pass Is Rarely Worth It, Especially for Families

Pixel Pass is a new subscription plan that bundles a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro purchase with a ton of Google services, like YouTube Music Premium, Google One cloud storage, and Google Play Pass. At just $45 a month, Pixel Pass looks like a great way to finance your phone and save a ton of money on Google services. But it may not be worth the money, especially if you have a family.
