Nov 16: Designing Economic Empowerment for Women
Among all that we need to design for women, money might be the top of the list. Chaitra, Nancy, Kalsoom, and Jona are all designing economic empowerment for women via different lenses — personal finance and investment, grant funding, health, building female-focused VC funds, and closing the gender financing gap via education.

2 minutes with Bloomer Masuma Ahuja 🌱
Masuma is an award-winning journalist formerly of CNN and the Washington Post. She reports on gender, migration, and human rights around the world. Building on her book documenting the lives of 30 girls around the world, she's launching Girlhood, a digital media platform powered by girls and their stories.
So much of your work is powered by stories: in one sentence, what makes a story compelling?
A former editor of mine once said a good story does one of two things: it teaches you something new, or it makes you cry. I think there's some truth to that: good stories either give you information you need, or they make you feel something. I'd add that good stories are grounded in truth – whether it's a factual or emotional truth.
For anyone here hoping to improve the way they present their own story, where would you suggest they begin?
I had a mentor once ask me: What's the thesis statement of your life? That's a helpful framing. When you're trying to tell your story – whether that's in a CV or a pitch or something else, figure out what the 'why' is that connects the dots of your story.
Who are some of your favorite follows on social media?
For me, right now, two accounts that I love on Instagram are @everydayeverywhere. which is a network of people and accounts that show daily life around the world, and @women_at_leisure, a wonderful project collecting and curating photos of women at leisure.
A story you found particularly inspiring in your own journey?
The stories – and people – I keep returning to are the ones who are unafraid of messy, complicated, difficult problems, who move with kindness, and who are always energized about forging paths forward.
