Big Wins, Bragging, and Bringing their A-Game to Design Week

This may be the newsletter that we're *most* excited about this year. We're deviating from our traditional format and doing a BIG WINS!!! celebration email to show off all of the amazing press placements our clients have been getting (for themselves) along with a few Wolf Craft wins as well.

Because we're big into sharing actionable information, we paired each shout out with a related PR Pro Tip to give you a bit of insight into how these media placements came together so you can tighten up your own PR strategy.

SinCa Design in AD Mexico

So incredibly proud of our former 1-1 client Maria from SinCa Design, whose work was just published in a multi-page spread in AD Mexico. We worked together on the problem of how to take photos of SinCa's work, during the height of the pandemic where a photoshoot of this caliber was an impossible task. Together we talked through using a renderer and what inspiration images Maria would want from the final results so they would be at a media standard. When AD Mexico reached out, Maria said, "I was so happy to have the renders and everything I needed to send over to her right away! đŸ‘đŸŒ"

  PR Pro Tip
Invest in *great* media quality images

Photography (or in this case, photo realistic renderings) is one of the best investments you can make in your business. Sure, you may have some photos, but if the colors are weak, the backgrounds are distracting, or there just aren’t enough images, getting great media placements will be all but impossible!

Ask anyone I’ve ever worked with, they will tell you that when it comes to photography, I sound like a broken record. But that won’t stop me from saying it over and over again. Photography is truly the number one, most important investment you can make in your business outside of product development.

Carmen Elllis in Interior Design

Carmen Ellis makes the most gorgeous pieces modeled after different parts of the body. She submitted her work to the twice yearly Interior Design Market Tabloid, the issue that is ALL product, ALL the time. Filling out the forms might feel boring or beneath some folks, but sometimes it works out. Everyone who makes product for the A+D industry should be submitting to the ID Market Tabloid! I'm sure if you ask Carmen, she'll tell you the same!

  PR Pro Tip
Applying for awards and submissions should be part of your PR strategy
Isn’t it nearly impossible to get an industry award, though? Not necessarily. Yes, there are some competitive top tier awards, but a lot of industry trade magazines also have awards. Don’t know where to start, look to your competitors to see what kinds of awards they are snagging and look into how to apply for them! Through the application process you’ll have to succinctly and clearly write about your product, its inspiration, and how it was produced. Also, you’ll have to take high quality photos, which you’ll need for general press outreach anyway. A lot of awards come up around the same time as the industry’s trade shows.

Behind The Hill in Interior Design

Maud from Behind the Hill was able to secure a full page in Interior Design's November issue! Her textiles are never dyed, instead the cotton just grows in different colors and her textiles use whatever colors pop out of the ground that year. Good thing she took a photo displaying the range of colors to help support that talking point!

  PR Pro Tip
Don’t be afraid to follow up!
Worried that following up with editors at top-tier publications will come off as annoying? Don’t worry, it's is a big part of the pitching process. Editors are receive tons of emails each day, so things do slip through the cracks. Be friendly and courteous, short and sweet.

Nora Wolf in PR Week

Earlier this month I was interviewed by the editorial director of PR Week about my small but mighty businesses Wolf Craft and Wolf PR. I'm so proud to have been a small biz owner for over a decade. Mostly it’s a lot of unglamorous work but sometimes there are very rewarding moments, like this one :)

  PR Pro Tip
What you do and who you are needs to be crystal clear right up front
Put yourself in the shoes of someone (like an editor who gets 100 emails a day) who has never heard of you and an email from you popped in their inbox. Create one very clear short paragraph to describe what you do and how you're demonstrably different.

Wolf Craft Guest Blog Post

Learning how to do PR on your own can be overwhelming, especially for if you’re new to this kind of activity.

To give you all the info to get started, we put together our very first guest blog post for Shopify expert Shelley of Launch Party. You'll learn the 5 first steps to take to pitch your product to the media.

PR Pro Tip
The media loves a thought leader, and no you don’t have to be the CEO of a fortune 500 company to be one
If you run a business in a specific industry or topic, you are likely already an expert. Are you a furniture designer who is an expert in the circular economy and furniture buy-back programs? Are you a travel photographer who can also help people take great images with their phone camera? Let people know what you may take for granted.
Former 1-1 client Erin Lorek of Lorekform will be showing her entire Iron + Glass collection at WantedDesign Manhattan on November 14th and 15th.

You can find her at booth #2972 in the Look Book section among a beautifully curated selection of North American designers.
Former 1-1 client Tomma Bloom will also be showing her Rhythm One / 3D Wall Tiles at WantedDesign Manhattan on November 14th and 15th.

Her wall tile collection was born from inquiring about the three-dimensional possibilities hidden in her practice. She was curious how she could transform the tools of her trade - pattern, structure, form and color – into tangible, three-dimensional experiences.
And finally, yet another former 1-1 participating in NYCxDesign. Jewelry designer Cat Merrick will be participating in the Jonald Dudd group show From Nov 12-14 at 265 Canal St. Hours are 11-7 with an opening reception on the 13th.

She'll be showing her Pigment work, which is made with pure painting pigment set in double walled quartz glass and custom machined anodized aluminum.
  PR Pro Tip
Time when you launch new projects or products with industry events.
There is a guaranteed increase in press opportunities during trade events. Everything from CES to Comic Con to Design Week right here in NYC has round ups, best ofs, and meet so-and-sos. Now is the time to do outreach to the media!
Thanks for giving us some time in your inbox! If you have any questions send us a note, we'll always reply.

Cheers,
Nora & Kirsten
