Tip of the Day

It’s easy to get dehydrated and grumpy from low blood sugar when you’re busy with holiday preparations. Make sure to drink extra water today and snack as you’re taking care of last-minute things.

Happy Friday and Happy Christmas Eve! It’s not every day I get to double up the merry-wishing like that but the stars (and calendar) aligned for it today.

If you’re already amped up and in a Christmas mood, now is a fun time to check out the history of popular Christmas symbols and what people eat for Christmas around the world. Folks hosting and already feeling exhausted, a more appropriate topic might be how to sneak in self-care during the holidays.

Having an “I didn’t shop in time!” moment of panic? Don’t stress, the crew over at our sister-site Review Geek has a perfect list of gifts you can send remotely (no shipping required). They even have some gifts you can send with a text message—though we’d recommend giving the recipient a call so they actually believe the text message is from you and not a clever scammer.

Most of you probably aren’t at work today so this is less water cooler trivia and more egg-nog-bowl trivia, but here’s a Christmas Eve bit of trivia for you. On this day in 1968, the crew of Apollo 8 became not just the first astronaut crew to leave Earth’s orbit but the first to orbit the Moon. In addition to those historical firsts, Apollo 8 astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, Jr., and William Anders definitely had the distinction of celebrating Christmas Eve (and Christmas Day) further from home than anyone else in history ever had before.
