Opportunity #1:
Data intelligence for startups

Sisu helps companies make data-driven decisions; their tagline is "fastest path to why." The platform uses machine learning to help businesses analyze complex data and better understand the root causes of specific trends.

This week, we'll be looking at data analytics solutions for startups. While Sisu focuses on the enterprise segment, you're probably familiar with several data/metrics solutions that sell to startups: such as Baremetrics, ProfitWell, and ChartMogul.

We'll be looking at each company to understand why down-market companies lean towards these solutions over Sisu, and why larger companies love Sisu Data.

Then, we'll look at the trajectory of this market. Specifically, we'll see how commoditization and competition are affecting these companies in different ways, and it's essential to understand this when considering this market.

Lastly, we'll look at what an example MVP might look like in this market, identify three high-value marketing channels for growing the company, and create a clear customer persona that helps us stand out among the competition!

Opportunity #2:
A culture-fit tool for hiring

Gem is a recruitment analytics platform that helps recruiters track hiring across departments. It has dashboards with hiring pipeline overviews and tracks numbers of applications, interviews, assessments, offers, and hires. Users can filter views by various categories to give them a more granular understanding of specific hiring processes.

In this issue, we'll investigate:
  • How is Gem replacing traditional ATS solutions?

  • How has Gem been able to triple their ARR over the past year, and where is their current focus?

  • Why are company culture tools rallying against AI-based hiring tools, and what opportunity does this create?
This is ideal for a founder looking for a small project that builds on progressive ideas about how employers can engage their workforce. Although it doesn't require a huge development effort, being committed to the underlying message about company culture will be a huge part of successfully marketing this software.

Overall, it's a great opportunity in a quickly evolving space, with the potential to continue to expand its functionality and grow into new markets over time!

Opportunity #3:
A session-replay tool for technical troubleshooting

FullStory is a "digital experience intelligence" platform, meaning that it helps companies create software that functions properly and that users love to use.

In other words, FullStory is effective a UX optimization software that helps developers understand the context behind bugs and JavaScript error logs as well as capturing session replays to provide visibility into issues,

FullStory is a fantastic option for companies looking for a comprehensive product for capturing user sessions and user data, and using that data to identify bugs that are affecting a large number of users. It is primarily targeted towards product teams, and further emphasizes its value towards eCommerce companies.

As such, competing directly against these giants such as FullStory, HotJar, and Dynatrace simply doesn't make sense without an aggressive marketing budget.

However, there are companies that have niched in this space and done quite well. One example is Cohere, which has taken session replay tools and observability and applied it to the customer service space.

This week, we'll be looking at building a similar UX tool that offers session replays. However, instead of focusing on identifying sessions at scale like HotJar and FullStory, we'll instead be building a product that helps customer support teams better understand specific customer support issues by automatically surfacing relevant user sessions as tickets come in!
