This Unexpected Skirt Trend Is Taking Over NYFW & It's Beautiful

The weather is yo-yoing like crazy and the clatter of high heeled boots can be heard all the way down Canal Street, which can only mean one thing: New York Fashion Week is in full swing.

Despite a few marquee names deferring this season, there has still been plenty of fashion eye candy on runways around the city (not to mention numerous jaw-dropping hair and makeup looks). As a beauty editor, it’s my job to report on the latter, but like everyone else attuned to the fashion industry I’m eager to see what trends are shaping up for the Fall/Winter 2022 season — and when I can add my favorites to my closet.

Happily, there’s been no lack of capital L looks from designers like Brandon Maxwell, Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler, Tombogo, Khaite, and more. Whether the drama is coming from embellishments like feathers and pearls or unexpected jacket and skirt silhouettes with plenty of layers and volume, the message for 2022 is clear: it’s time to get dressed up again.
