BUY LIST UPDATE: One stock added to the BUY LIST. I’m being careful in this play while aiming for value, reliability, & future growth. Russia Update: Well I noted on twitter that the U.S. & NATO have not likely agreed to substantive sanctions against Russia. And all indicators imply they truly haven’t. President Biden sanctioned 2x Russian banks, some Russian elites & their families (low hanging fruit in the hopes that they will beg Putin to reverse his course), & he prevented U.S. banks from making loans to Russia/Russian entities (Russia expected this & this will divert their business to China). Notably absent were the sanctions on the only thing that matters to Russia … oil & natural gas. In short, despite all of the promises of painful, hard, & swift sanctions, the U.S. & EU will continue to buy oil & natural gas from Russia, & the scarcity in fossil fuels will do little more than make Russia wealthier. No larger example of how much of a nothing burger these sanctions are than pointing to the Russian indexes & ETF’s, … that rallied after President Biden finished his speech on Russian sanctions. If you were hoping that Putin received some sort of hard lesson from these sanctions that will prevent future meddling in Eastern Europe, you will no doubt be disappointed. At the end of the day these sanctions have more to do with politicians attempting to show their constituents that they’re standing up to Russia, than they do actually punishing or deterring Russia. I am certain that when Putin calculated the cost/benefit of his actions in the Ukraine, he was both expecting & prepared for much much worse. So this may not be over. Prepare accordingly for market volatility should Putin seek further aggression. China, a key enabler of the Russian invasion, has largely been ignored. Remember that a week or two prior to the invasion of the Ukraine, Russia & China entered into a number of trade agreements. This was obviously aimed at taking the sting out of any sanctions implemented by Western Powers. China also has not hidden the fact that they’re taking Russia’s side on this. This raises the question as to how serious the EU & the West are to place legitimate sanctions on Russia? The answer is “not very serious.” Therefore the markets oversold when we consider what we thought may happen, and what did. This is good for us. It means the market over did it on the dump! All indicators point to a policy of “we will sanction you so as long as it doesn’t interfere with importing Russian oil & food (which we will continue to buy from Russia), & we will pretend that China didn’t make the invasion possible (because we are wholly dependent on Chinese imports).” So what has changed between last week & today aside from the fact that Russia now sits in part of the Ukraine? … … … nothing of true substance. In short, buy the dip! China, which I do not encourage anyone to invest in but I will say this all the same, is the big winner here. Sanctions on Russia set’s China up for increased commerce, banking, & Western dependence on Chinese exports. Any possible future sanctions on Russia will directly benefit China. Headwinds Ahead: I have a responsibility to warn my subscribers that bullish companies are going to be increasingly hard to find in this environment. I therefore owe it to you to scrutinize my picks more than ever as a result of REAL headwinds. The quick turnarounds we were accustomed to in the past are simply not going to happen in this economy. A swing that may take a month or two last year may take a quarter or two this year. Therefore I think it prudent to buy in slow & only average down when it hurts. Most companies remain profitable, but an adjustment in long term valuations & expectations are necessary. I will trade accordingly. Significant News Heading into 02.22.2022:
