Joy Clark

"It all comes back to being willing to tell your story. It'll allow you that freedom to put your truest self into your art.”

Singer-songwriter Joy Clark knows that hiding who you are is the opposite of freedom. In her talk for CreativeMornings/New Orleans, interspersed with soulful song performances, Clark grapples with how she concealed her queerness and her stutter to placate others and smother her own negative feelings. But her guitar allows her to connect with her emotions and to communicate when words sometimes fail her. Watch Joy Clark’s musical meditation, full of sweetness and comfort, and learn to hug the things that hold you back.
