The Russian government has ramped up claims in recent days that the U.S. was operating bioweapon research facilities in Ukraine. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the U.S. “has 336 labs in 30 countries under its control, including 26 in Ukraine.” The allegations from Russia have stretched back years. Russia has never provided any proof.

Sen. Marco Rubio asked [State Department official Victoria Nuland] if Ukraine has biological weapons. “Ukraine has biological research facilities, which we are now quite concerned Russian forces may be seeking to gain control of,” Nuland said. A State Department spokesperson said the Pentagon does not own any biolabs in Ukraine. Nuland, they said, “was referring to Ukrainian biodefense laboratories.”
    ...
"Now that Russia has made these false claims, and China has endorsed this propaganda, we should be on the lookout for Russia to possibly use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine, or to create a false flag operation using them," White House press secretary Jen Psaki tweeted.
