Texas Supreme Court rules against abortion providers, closing 'last back door' to block six-week ban.
USA Today (Moderate Left) • Factual Grade 80% • 3 min read

Central to the debate [over Senate Bill 8] is the unique enforcement mechanism of the law, which bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. Instead of creating a criminal penalty, the law allows any private individual to sue abortion providers or people who aid an abortion.
    ...
Abortion providers argued in court that state agencies regulating doctors, nurses, pharmacists and the health care system have an enforcement role that makes them an appropriate target for their lawsuit. But lawyers for the state said the law clearly states that only private citizens can enforce the law through civil litigation. Justices on the Texas Supreme Court agreed, effectively ending the challenge [to SB 8].
    ...
Abortion providers from across the state originally sued numerous state officials, but a divided U.S. Supreme Court said in December that only one of those challenges could proceed: the one targeting state medical licensing officials. The 5th Circuit ultimately sided with attorneys for the state and agreed to ask the Texas Supreme Court to wade into the case.

Should NATO join the Ukraine conflict if Russia uses chemical weapons?

585 votes, 46 comments

Context: Russia alleges U.S. operates biolabs in Ukraine; U.S. warns Russia may use chemical/biological weapons.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - The global response to the use of chemical weapons should be unilateral and swift, any country that supports their use should also be considered an enemy. If the response is nuclear so be it, we have a moral obligation to stand up against that kind of evil.

No - The question would be more accurately phrased as “should NATO start WWIII ...
