Morfternight

by Paolo Belcastro

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Hello Reader!

I hope this finds you well. In a moment of optimism earlier today, I shared this thought:

A critical part of the Product Lead role is remembering this:

In the large scheme of things, none of it matters. In a few billion years the sun will eventually destroy our planet.

Try solving problems, donโ€™t get emotionally attached to solutions.

As noted in a reply, the optimistic bit is the belief that we won't annihilate ourselves sooner than that.

At the same time, I got deeply annoyed at reCaptcha and the idea that a machine can determine if we are humans.

Even more irritating is the idea that being humans means having the ability to recognize traffic lights.

I wonder whether, in the future, in a Natural History Museum visited by intelligent robots, we'll be presented next to bees and salmon...

Ukraine is still at war.

Beyond the present horror, I strongly agree with Ray Dalio. We are at a pivotal moment in history, witnessing big changes in the world as we know it.

I truly recommend watching this video. The explanation is crystal clear.

I wish our current leaders understood how history repeats itself. Maybe they could avoid making the same mistakes once more.

I also agree with Dalio that we are looking at China as the next dominant force (not that this is an original idea, I think it's pretty obvious).

My theory is that by the time we start being really scared by a potential nuclear escalation with Russia, China will enter the fray in the role of the savior of the free world that the USA had in 1945.

Hopefully, that will seal the transition less violently than 77 years ago. After that, China will lead titanic infrastructure projects to transform Siberia, a traditionally too cold region that is warming fast.

That's it for today! You can find more of my stuff on paolo.blog, and if you think that someone you know could enjoy Morfternight, the newsletter to share, please forward it to them or send them this link to subscribe.

Cheers!
