The simplest system for getting clients you'll ever see

Early on in my business I created a folder which made me tens of thousands of dollars. It looked like this:

​While this may look like just like any regular old folder, it actually helped me land several high-value deals... and even end dry spells.

And here's how it worked.

One day I asked my most successful consultant friend to show me his website.

And when DM-ed me the link, here's what I saw:

This blew my mind.

This guy had a six-figure consulting business... and yet his website had nothing on it.

In comparison, I made a fraction of the revenue and was spending a ton of time tinkering with my website.

And that's when it hit me: my portfolio website was a huge waste of time.

I mean... can you tell the difference between these work samples? Can you tell which projects were a success and which ones didn't generate results?

​Nope.

I certainly can't.

And guess what? Clients can't either.

But by putting so much emphasis on the work in our portfolio, that's the exact position we put potential clients in.

By the way, this makes it easy to see why some clients are so price-focused: when all work samples are the same, price really is the only difference.

I was shocked.

I went back to my friend and asked him one simple question: the hell do you find work with no portfolio?

He then shared with me: THE FOLDER.

It was a special folder he created to collect every potential client conversation he had on a daily basis, like:

• Whenever a client emailed him back
• Whenever he jumped on a call with someone
• Whenever he sent someone his (PDF) portfolio
• Whenever someone asked him for a referral
• Etc.

Basically, as he went about his day he casually dropped conversations into this folder.

And then -- about once a week (or whenever he needed work) -- he went back into this folder to follow up.

What was waiting for him? A warm list of prospects.

I loved it.

I created my own folder that day.

And after a few weeks, here's what it looked like:

​Dozens of warm conversations waiting for me.

Prospects who trusted me a little bit more than the next guy in their inbox.

What would a folder like this mean to your business?

For me, this folder soon became one of my most valuable sources for new work.

Whenever I needed revenue I would simply open up this folder and follow-up with any open email chains.

It was usually as simple as writing:

• Hi Jenny, how is [company name] doing with this?

That's it.

This could be enough to spark a conversation that would eventually lead to a new contract.

When I followed up about problems in their business, it was amazing how often they'd bring up stuff I could help with.

And when they did, I offered to help. Boom.

This took a little bit of work upfront... but compared to the amount of time I was spending on my portfolio, it was a much better use of my time.

Here's why --

Clients were no longer comparing my work to 100000s other freelancers...

... They were making their decision to hire me based on trust.

That made all the difference.
