New Old Age - Overcome those motherfucking obstacles
Steven Pressfield likes to tell it like it is. Steven’s a down-to-earth all-American writer and author. He writes historical fiction, non-fiction, and screenplays. His “The War of Art” has sold over a million copies and is the go-to book for writers and artists struggling with creativity. Being a man of crisp, no-nonsense words, Steve boils those struggles down to internal resistance. Writer’s block? Creative block? Block of any kind? These are all internal demons acting out as external obstacles. “The War of Art” aims to help channel creative energy, unlock potential and overcome the fears and resistance that stop us from reaching our fullest potential. Though written for writers, it’s inspiring for entrepreneurs, actors, dancers, painters, photographers, filmmakers, anyone who creates their own life. Sloth, inertia, rationalization and procrastination? These motherfucking obstacles are there to make us doubt ourselves and damn our dreams. Such resistance wants to stop us becoming who we need to be. Steve’s advice is to do the work. Buckle up, buckle down, get into place and get into the flow. Forward motion is the only way to overcome resistance. Don’t try and talk to it. Don’t try and reason with it. Don’t engage. Just start doing the work and negentropy will take care of resistance without you having to give it a second thought. (Negentropy is the opposite of entropy. It’s a temporary condition in which certain things are hotter and more highly organized than the surrounding space. It’s not hippy-dippy shit. It’s the second law of thermodynamics.) If you’re a writer, you overcome resistance in all its misanthropy by sitting down at a writing desk and, you know, writing. Sure, if you have a standing desk, stand. But get your fingers in front of a keyboard or a pen and paper, and get your thoughts out of your mind and down into the world. That’s your job. Do your job.
