Learn about some of the most common SEO mistakes you need to avoid (Part 1), and in this week's SaaS showcase I'll tell you about a tool that will batch your emails and improve your productivity.

Actionable SEO Tip of the Week

A successful SEO strategy is not just about doing what works, but also avoiding the things that don’t work 🤯

That’s why you need to know about the most common SEO mistakes and how to avoid them. This is Part 1 of a non-sequential ongoing series. Let’s get started!

❌ Common SEO Mistake #1:

Not planning your SEO strategy from the start

SEO success does not happen overnight. It takes time for your website to rank on search results and for organic traffic to start coming in.

Still, I see a lot of makers that decide not to work on their SEO from the start. They don’t see it as a priority or as something that should be worked on as early as possible.

This usually happens because we all want to see fast results, and since that usually doesn’t happen with SEO, we just put it off for a later time, but that’s exactly why you must work on it as soon as possible! 😮

I while back I shared a simple 6-Month SEO plan that can be implemented within the first month, assuming you delegate some of the work.

That would be the perfect way to kickstart your SEO strategy without spending too much time on it.

But if you feel that even that is too much to get started, here’s another idea that you can do over the weekend:

The bottom line is that should get started with your SEO as soon as possible. That way you will see results much faster.

❌ Common SEO Mistake #2:

Not having a blog

When a new product is launched, we usually focus on creating the main landing page, pricing page, and maybe some feature pages, but that’s about it.

And it makes sense because the main landing and pricing pages will be used to convert website visitors and feature pages are great to attract people who are searching for a similar product.

But did you know that eventually, your blog will be the biggest driver of organic traffic from people who know nothing about your solution/software/service?

If you want to see an example of this, check out HubSpot. They are pretty well known for their CRM software, but if you look at their blog, they publish content about many different topics, like Instagram marketing, sales and marketing plans, Facebook ads guides, and even SEO courses.

Why do they do that? Because they know that people who need that type of content, will most likely also need a CRM.

Your blog is the best tool to attract people who are not directly searching for your solution/software/service, but who may become your customers once they know about you.

So if you don’t have a blog on your website, add one now and start creating content!

❌ Common SEO Mistake #3:

Not doing keyword research before creating content

I hear a lot of people say that they write content for their users, not for search engines, and that’s why they don’t care about SEO.

That’s fine, but guess what? People will use a search engine to find your content 🤷

Doing keyword research and optimizing for SEO does not mean that you will stuff your content with keywords. That was a thing about 20 years ago, but not anymore.

Keyword research helps you discover, not only what people are searching for, but also understand what is the intent behind the search.

Knowing this will allow you to create content that ranks better and that provides much higher value to your readers.

Back on issue #003 I wrote more about how to find your best keywords and suggested some tools that will help you do it.

I want to keep it simple and actionable for you, so that’s it for now, but stay tuned next month for Common SEO Mistakes, Part 2. Make sure you are subscribed so you don’t miss it!

SaaS Showcase of the Week

If your work involves deep concentration, the worse things for your productivity are interruptions. If you work in an office setting, you can just close your door or put on your headphones and ignore the outside world. But sometimes, that’s not enough.

Email is a great communication tool, but it can also be a huge distraction!

Your inbox pings every couple of minutes, and of course, it feels like a received email needs to be answered, even if it’s not urgent. So you do it and lose momentum on whatever you were doing before.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a way to break free from distracting emails and improve your productivity? Well, let me tell you about this week’s SaaS showcase.

Snailbox is a tool that helps you batch your Gmail so you can focus on deep work.

It works by scheduling your email delivery at specific times. For example, instead of being distracted every couple of minutes when an email comes in, you can get all your emails batched delivered at a specific time. Hello productivity! 🎉
