Let’s dive in! 🥑 Health🌬 Air Quality & Cognitive PerformanceAir quality has become a topic I’m greatly interested in. Here’s an interesting research paper showing how air quality impacts cognitive performance:
And here’s another one:
To study air quality in more detail, pair these with:
🌱 Wellness📰 The Answer Is Not More InformationThis article is one of the best things I’ve read this year. It explains that more information is not the solution to our problems, as it often leads to more anxiety. Past a certain point, more information makes things worse.
This part on friendship is compelling:
New technology often starts with the premise that more information will solve our problems, but creating tools that provide us with more information often undermines some other aspects of our lives and can leave us worse off.
Same idea, but with a funny twist: STOP reading books. u are planting maize in the untouched Galapagos gardens of ur mind. do not ruin ur originality with the mediocre takes of people who write airport non-fiction for mid-level deloitte consultants Pair with: When Technology Takes Revenge 🧠 Better Thinking🔮 Forecasting is Hard
This article is a good reminder that forecasting is hard because every event creates its own offspring, which impacts the world in its own unique ways.
The problem with economic forecasting is that the things you can predict tend to not matter and the things you can't predict make all the difference in the world. ⚡️ Startup Stuff🥇 Rippling and the Return of AmbitionI know it’s the third week that I share Riplling-related content, but I’ve been in a sort of rabbit hole exploring their product, vision, strategy, etc. I found this article by John Luttig excellent and worth sharing here. The biggest takeaway I got from Parker Conrad is this:
Put differently:
I believe a similar approach can be taken for consumer SaaS. Another point I like about Rippling is their culture: we approach things in the same way at Vital.
The alternative is the "Compound Startup" -- companies that consolidate systems for clients and solve problems across multiple different point solution products. 📚 What I Read📛 HeresyWe thought the concept of “heresy” was gone for good. We were wrong.
🇨🇳 Dictator Book Club: Xi JinpingA great piece on Xi Jinping.
🧼 Relentless by Tim GroverTim Grover was the coach of Michael Jordan and Cove Bryant (RIP). His ideas around training, effort, and pushing harder than you think is possible are worth reading. You’ll learn how to become a “cleaner.”
🎙 Podcast Episodes of the WeekThis week in podcasts:
"ESG is just a hate factory. It’s a factory for naming enemies, and we should not be allowing them to do that. When you think ESG, you should be thinking Chinese Communist Party."--Peter Thiel 🍭 Brain Food👨🎨 Dall•EThis tweet generated a renewed wave of interest in the near-term capabilities of AI. Here are some of my favorite Dall•E-generated images: As a follow-up, I enjoyed this piece by Sasha Chapin, meditating on whether this new development is a net positive for humans or not.
Hands down one of the most evil, anti-human things I’ve ever seen OpenAI @OpenAI Here’s a look at what DALL·E 2 can do. 👀🧵👇 Want to see more? Follow along on Instagram: https://t.co/eKejIFxWdn
🎥 What I’m Watching🔌 The Electric Car Pre-Order ProblemThis is an excellent video underlining that building a prototype is way easier than actually making and shipping real cars.
