🎳 Not particularly bowled over with Nintendo Switch Sports
๐ Web version | Unsubscribe Hello, here's issue #280 of Switch Weekly. As ever, I hope you're doing well. This week's big release was of course Nintendo Switch Sports. I've linked up a few different reviews in the issue below, but my takeaway is that although its seems to be a solid package its not quite a home run. I'd note also, a lot of the early reviews could not play the online portion of the game — so keep that in mind. It's a shorter than usual issue this week as me and the family are heading off on a long-awaited holiday for a week's break. As such, there will be no standard issue next Sunday. I'll personally be back in your inbox on May 15th — however, I've got a guest columnist stepping in with a little something next week. As I'm writing this week's issue early the list of upcoming games isn't as comprehensive as I'd like — so be sure to take a look over at Switch Scores for a more thorough look at what's on the horizon. Finally, thanks to all those who subbed my Switch Weekly YouTube channel last week — I've got a few things planned for it on my return. Thanks so much for reading. Cheers โ๏ธ ๐ฎ Currently Playing — EarthBound, Kirby and the Forgotten Land REVIEW Nintendo Switch Sports — This reviews calls Switch Sports "an admirable package" — but notes that the value really lies in the online play. Rebecca Stone writing at Twinfinite wasn't overly taken by it, noting how the sports on offer here are basic and "do not build upon the previous concepts in any revolutionary way". Here's another take from Keza MacDonald at The Guardian who quipped that this game is "the kind of thing you’ll bust out for an hour here and there for years to come when people visit. It’s just so welcoming, a quality I especially value in a game". Daniel Vuckovic // Vooks โถ Wii Sports: What makes it iconic? — A launch game with a near universal legacy. Nintendo Life REVIEW Zombie Army 4: Dead War — A seemingly impressive port here that's "eminently playable in both docked and handheld". There's not a great deal of solid shooters on Switch, so this seems like a sound option that offers up "a ton of scholcky B-movie fun". PJ O'Reilly // Nintendo Life Yuji Naka says Square Enix doesn’t ‘value games’ after Balan Wonderworld mess Disney Dreamlight Valley looks like Animal Crossing with a Kingdom Hearts twist โถ A half decade of Nintendo Switch: The best games so far Arlo // YouTube REVIEW The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Jordan Ramée // GameSpot โถ REVIEW orbit.industries Louise Duncan // YouTube REVIEW Am I a bit addicted to 'Bit Orchard: Animal Valley'? Vulgar Knight Nintendo Switch Online is ready to rival PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – sort of — Not sure I'd wholly agree with the headline here, but it does seem that for now Nintendo have found something of a happy middle ground with their online offering, balancing the cost and overall product offering, with plenty of scope to improve. Adam Vjestica // TechRadar Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga is at its best when it veers from the films Videogame tutorials are awful — A plea for tutorials that are "seamless, fun, and relevant". Jacob Bergdahl // SuperJump Mario, not so super at forty — "I'm-a not doing so great" — A fanfic of sorts on the man in red turning 40. ๐ Simon Rich // The New Yorker
