Sticky Notes - Don't break the chain.

Don't break the chain.
Don't break the chain.
Don't break the chain.

The short story...

Don't break the chain is a 29-day writing course taught entirely via email, designed to help you develop (and actually stick to) a daily writing practice. Doors close the moment class begins, which is Tuesday, May 3rd at 9:00 a.m. CDT. Yes. That's in 3 days. So, if you're interested, you better enroll

The whole story...

The greatest piece of writing advice I've ever received came from Jerry Seinfeld.

No. It wasn't directly from the horse's mouth. But, it was something I had heard about the extraordinary comedian early on in his writing career.

Legend has it that when Seinfeld was first dabbling in the craft of comedy, he would challenge himself to write a joke every single day.

He had one of those big tacky calendars that hung on his bedroom wall and each day, when he'd successfully fulfill this promise to himself and write a joke, he'd Sharpie an "X" on the calendar.

By day two, the X's would become the beginnings of a chain and then the challenge for Seinfeld became not breaking the chain, saying to himself "don't break the chain" as his daily writing tally grew longer and longer and longer.

If you look through my closet, you'll find small calendars with rows and rows of black chains on them. Seinfeld's advice is what made me the writer I am today.

Don't break the chain is a 29-day writing course taught entirely via email, designed to help you develop (and actually stick to) a daily writing practice.

By the end of it, it's my hope that you will have a chain long enough to lasso your dreams with.

Doors close the moment class begins, which is Tuesday, May 3rd at 9:00 a.m. CDT. Yes. That's in 3 days. Yes. That means if you're interested, you better enroll.

Godspeed,

Cole.
