316: The Realities & Struggles of Building a SaaS Startup

In 2018, a couple of friends in Belgium decided to build a SaaS product.

Everyone they spoke to told them it was a great idea.

So Gary and Bram spent over a year building their product.

They didn't validate their idea properly. And almost a year and a half later, they realized that they'd built something that nobody wanted.

With their next idea, they did things differently.

They validated the idea properly and even pre-sold it to a couple of customers.

And this time, their launch was a lot more successful.

But little did the founders realize that their struggles were just beginning.

In this episode, we talk about the realities of building a SaaS business and the endless struggles founders face trying to find product-market fit.

We also dive into some big mistakes the founders made and the lessons they learned from those experiences including:

• How to pre-sell your product idea
• How to differentiate your product when it's not a unique idea
• How to use partnerships to grow (and how to find and recruit partners)
• How to avoid early hiring mistakes

I hope you enjoy it.
